Sesshomaru stared intently at the girl smiling at the two men seated at a far table as she took their orders, pinpointing all her errors with disapproval. “Hmph.”
“Sesshomaru-sama,” Rin said, “you’re going to laser holes in between her shoulder blades if you look any harder.”
He ignored her teasing as he watched Kagome give a cheery wave and fairly skip back to the kitchen to place their order. She handed him a ticket when she emerged from the kitchen before heading towards another table. Looking down at her neatly written characters, Sesshoumaru read off the entrees he had to make.
As Kagome busied herself with learning the art of being a server that exceeded Sesshoumaru’s expectations, he was working on creating his masterpieces to serve to his customers. She came back moments later to check on his progress and found Sesshomaru leaning closer to the rectangular plate with a squeeze bottle in his hand.
His face was a mask of pure concentration as he put the finishing touches of the sauce art for the Green Dragon Roll. He dotted the first piece of the sushi for the dragon’s eyes and his hand swept over the plate in a circular motion, drawing out the whiskers with eel sauce. Nodding his approval, Sesshoumaru placed the completed dish on top of the counter for Kagome to serve.
“It’s ready already?” she asked. “That was fast!”
“Hnn.”
She had placed it on her tray and was sailing back towards the table with a wide smile when it happened.
He watched with dawning horror as her foot caught on the leg of a chair. She slipped, body moving forward while her foot remained in place, and his masterpiece went flying, flying, flying...
Straight into a customer’s smiling face.
The entire restaurant fell silent as Kagome gasped, rushing towards the shocked customer as words of deepest regret and sincere apologies spilled from her lips. Sesshoumaru’s hands tightened its grip on his sushi knife and a low growl escaped his pursed lips. He shot Kagome’s back an intense glare as she continued to try and clean the customer’s face with a dishtowel.
Rin bit her bottom lip nervously, casting Sesshoumaru a quick side glance. “Did you... Did you just growl?”
He turned to look at her, his silent accusations startlingly clear. The glare he gave her was just as intimidating as the one aimed at the poor, flustered server. Rin suppressed a shudder as she quickly looked away.
Her father could be downright terrifying sometimes.
