Sesshomaru heaved a great bored sigh. He hated parties. Especially his brother's parties. He was always trying to "hook him up" with one female or another. Sesshomaru did not remember hiring Inuyasha to be his matchmaker. He sat in the corner and sulked, no not sulked. Demons don't sulk. He glared out at the other attnedants of the party. Laughing and smiling and having a good time. He took a sip of his egg nog and grimaced. He could hardly call it egg nog as it seemed that Inuyasha had spiked it with excessive amounts of rum. He was about the leave when he heard it. The most beautiful laughter he'd ever heard. It chimed like bells. He didn't know who it was or even where she was. All he knew now was that he had to find the source of that laughter.
Kagome laughed at Koga's joke. She knew she probably shouldn't have, because he'd take it the wrong way, but she couldn't seem to help herself. She'd had a little bit of Inuyasha's special egg nog and was feeling pretty good right now. She had to admit that she was having fun and she usually didn't enjoy Inuyasha's parties. Kagome looked around at the beautifully decorated house and noticed that a few candles were setting out that added a glowing affect. It almost made her feel warmer to see the little flames dancing in the slight breeze that the people created. Suddenly she wondered where her sister Kikyou could have gotten off to. She was about to ask Koga when she saw her. Kikyou and Inuyasha were sharing a very long, very intimate moment under the mistletoe. She felt a slight pang in her heart. She'd liked Inuyasha for a long time but he never seemed really be interested in her like that. Now she could see why. She decided that she wouldn't sulk about it though. It was Christmas. She would be happy for them. Koga was still talking but she wasn't really listening. Her mind was elsewhere.
Sesshomaru had followed the laughter to the middle of the room but he could not tell which female had laughed. He sniffed the air. Maybe she smelt as beautiful as she sounded. A multitude of scents assaulted his nose. Body odor. Sweat. A few couples were apparently enjoying the festivities together quite enthusiastically. He smelled the perfumes and colognes that the people were wearing. He began to get irritated that he could not tell which female had been the one that intrigued him so much. His golden eyes scanned the crowd, determined to find her. He'd never been so... drawn to a female. And he didn't even know who it was. He turned around just as a dark haired woman weaved her way through the crowd towards the refreshment table. As she passed him a scent of cherry blossums and vanilla caressed his nose. Her. It had to be her.
"Koga, I told you. I'm not going under the mistletoe with you." It was the third time he'd asked and Kagome was starting to get annoyed.
"But, Kagome. It's a Christmas Tradition! You can't tell me you're gonna leave me hanging." Koga pouted.
"Go ask Ayame. She's dying to be your Christmas kiss." Kagome snapped. Koga winced and peeked over at the red headed girl who watched him with addoration in her eyes. He shuddered. She was just a kid to him.
"C'mon, Kagome. She's barley even legal. I want a real woman to be my Christmas kiss." Koga said, reaching up to stroke her bottom. A strong hand caught his and he glared up, up, up... His glare disappeared. Sesshomaru glared down, down, down at the wolf.
"I believe the lady said no. And as I am sure you are aware, pup," He emphasized the word, "that females do not enjoy being groped by a lecher such as yourself. Now, I suggest you apologize to her and proceed to remove yourself from my brother's home." He snarled giving the wolf's hand a tight squeeze. Koga wimpered his apology and as soon as Sesshomaru let go his hand he darted for the door. Sesshomaru watched him go before he turned his attention to the raven haired beauty before him.
Kagome stared at the man who had saved her bottom from an unwelcome hand. He was, for lack of a better word, gorgeous!! She knew Inuyasha had a brother but had never met him before. And now that she had, she'd wished that she'd met him sooner.
"So..." She said timidly. "You are Inuyasha's brother." He gave a slight nod. "Thank you. For that." She motioned to the door in which the wolf had fled. "He was getting rather bothersome." He bowed, never taking his eyes off her.
"You are most welcome." He said. 'She truly is a beauty. She has to be the one.' Kagome blushed at the way he stared at her so intensly. "Forgive me for staring." He said as he straightened himself up. "It is rare that one catches my eye." Kagome began to blush even more fiercly. He stared at her, knowing the affect he had on her. "Are you warm? Would you like some fresh air?" She nodded silently. Before she could blink he was gone. She blinked and he was back with her coat in his hand. How did he know which one was hers? He saw the confusion in her eyes. He touched a clawed finger to his nose. "Your scent." Was all he had to say. She felt a bit of relief flow through her as she slid her arms through her coat. He crooked his arm for her to take.
"Thank you." She said again. Never had a man acted so gentlemanly towards her. They'd always acted like Koga. But he was different. She hoped.
As they walked Sesshomaru watched at her out of the corner of his eye. He watched as the snowflakes settled in her hair and melt making it shine. She stared up and the starlit sky.
'Her eyes puts the stars to shame.' He thought to himself. Should he tell her? He wanted to. He was concerned that it was scare her off. Now he was in unfamiliar territory. He was second guessing himself. He snarled at himself. Kagome looked at him with a little worry on her face. He stopped dead in his tracks making her stop too.
"I apologize. But I find myself in an unfamiliar state of mind."
"I- I'm sorry?" Kagome was really confused now. "I'm afraid I don't understand." Sesshomaru looked down at her and smirked a little.
"You see, it is not very often that I second guess myself. It has been over 400 years since I have last done so." Kagome's eyes widened. "I wish to tell you something but I do not know how you will take this." Kagome suddenly felt very nervous.
'Oh, gods. Why do I always get the creeps?' She thought.
Sesshomaru looked at her for a few minutes before he spoke.
"I wish to tell you that your eyes put the stars to shame. They have no hope of ever shining as brightly you." Kagome was stunned. No one had ever said anything like that to her before. Tears welled up in her large blue eyes as she laughed. Sesshomaru was confused. She was laughing and yet, she was crying. Though he enjoyed her laughter. She was the one he had heard before. "Why do you laugh?"
"I'm sorry. I... I just never expected to hear such beautiful words from a complete stranger. To be honest... You don't even know my name."Sesshomaru suddenly felt very foolish. He had not even bothered to ask her her name.
"Yes. Yes you are quite right." He said. He wasn't really sure how to proceed. Kagome giggled.
"It's Kagome Higurashi." She said. he stared at her. He took a thumb and wiped away a fallen tear.
" A beautiful name for a beautiful woman." He was pleased by the way she reacted to his touch. She shivered. "You are cold. Shall we return to the party?" Kagome looked as if she were thinking about saying no. But she nodded instead.
"Yes. Let's."
As they walked in the door she saw Kikyou sitting on Inuyasha's lap opening a small gift. Kagome watched as Sesshomaru took of her coat and hung it up for her. Kikyou squealed when she opened a little black velvet box.
"Oh, my god!! Yes! Yes, Inuyasha!!" Kikyou wrapped her arms around his neck. Kagome didn't even need to guess what had happened. Her sister was now engaged. She had to be happy for her. Sesshomaru watched Kagome's reaction to the scene before her. She seemed sad but she still had a smile on her face. How strange humans were.
"You are upset?" He asked. Kagome looked up at him, horrified.
"No! No." She paused. "I guess I am just a little jealous. I never thought my younger sister would get engaged before me." Kagome blushed a little to be admitting this him but there it was. Sesshomaru watched her as the blush crept acrossed her cheeks.
Kagome looked up to see him staring at her just as everyone started cheering at the stroke of midnight signifying that it was now officially christmas. She noticed that just above his head hung a small branch of mistletoe. She blushed even deeper.
'Oh crap.' She thought. Sesshomaru looked up to see what she was staring at and turned back to smirk at her, his intentions very eveident in his eyes. She didn't stop him when he leaned down and took her mouth gently with his. Kagome's heart raced as his lips caressed hers and she nearly choked on excitement when she felt his tongue brush over her lips. She parted them to allow him access. He was gentle at first. As if he were touching the pedals of a sakura blossom but then he became fervent in his need for her. Kagome felt as if she were on fire, the flames of passion building between her thighs and working it's way acrossed every inch of her skin licking at her like a lover. She almost couldn't stand it. A small moan escaped her throat and Sesshomaru growled in response.
This was by far the best Christmas either of them had ever had.
