Prompt 1: Fear
Her breath caught painfully in her chest as her feet pounded against the slick wet pavement. Above the thunderous beating of her heart, she could hear her pursuer chasing after her, a sinister chuckle escaping from him every now and then.
Blood. So much blood.
She had fled, hoping against hope to survive the night, to escape into the safety that the daylight provided.
“You can’t run from me forever, little miko,” he taunted, his dark, decadent voice sounding nearer behind her than she thought.
Oh, please, she prayed, fear crushing her heart and clouding her mind. Someone save me!
Prompt 2: Passion
It happened in less than a heartbeat. One moment she was sliding down rain-slicked alleys, the next moment she was pressed hard against a chiseled chest with muscular arms wrapped around her, preventing her escape. A large hand was clapped over her mouth to prevent her screaming.
“Hush, Kagome, it’s me.”
The man’s croon caused her to instantly relax, the honeyed timbre of his voice causing her mind to instantly recall the last time they had passionately joined in the silken sheets of his bed.
He released her and stepped out to face her pursuant, eyes narrowing at his opponent.
Prompt 3: Sorrow
Her thoughts of ardor quickly fizzled out, reality crashing down like a tidal wave and drowning her in sorrow. She still saw her family, lying on the kitchen floor like discarded puppets with lifeless eyes staring upwards towards the ceiling.
He had come in a bid to possess the Shikon no Tama, a jewel that possessed limitless power. They had refused to reveal its location, and he had killed them.
Mama. Souta. Jii-chan.
Kagome pressed her back against the mildewed brick wall and slid to the pavement, unaware of the two males facing off not ten feet away, and sobbed.
Prompt 4: Control
“Sesshoumaru. I’m surprised you’ve involved yourself with ningen affairs,” he said with sarcastic surprise.
“The Shikon no Tama is more than just a ningen affair. It also affects the youkai realm, as you well know, Naraku.” Sesshoumaru tilted his head up, his body language clearly proclaiming what he thought of the hanyou—that he was someone beneath him in every respect. “You are nothing but a coward with nothing worth anything to you, so to compensate, you attempt to control everything.”
Naraku bared his teeth in a snarl. “Before the night is up, I will have you on your knees!”
Prompt 5: Possessive
The two men leapt at each other, claws extended and aimed for the other’s jugular. As blood and curses filled the air, Kagome sat staring dazedly at the opposite wall.
Naraku. How could he have done that, to betray her trust in such a manner? Only the leaders of the respective ningen and youkai governments knew the location of the Shikon no Tama, as Kagome’s reiki was strong enough to mask the jewel’s aura. The leaders were rather possessive with that piece of information. Her closest friends knew her secret, making excuses when she had to skip classes for meetings.
Prompt 6: Forgiveness
Naraku had been a new student, eager to befriend Kagome and her friends. Out of all of them, Inuyasha, an inuhanyou, had the most misgivings, followed by Shippou, a kitsuneyoukai. Sango, a taijiya, Kikyou, a fellow miko, and Miroku, a houshi, had been more welcoming. If only she had listened to Inuyasha and Shippou!
Kagome was normally a very forgiving person. But no one in their right mind could forgive the slaughter of family.
Rage crystalized in her heart, and Kagome, emotionally wrung out, eagerly accepted the fury. She would show him why she was the world’s most powerful miko.
