Supreme Conquest

Chapter 1
Climbing down what were basically rib bones to the pit where Inuyasha and Sesshomaru were, Kagome felt her stomach roil in a very unpleasant way. That got even worse when she got to the bottom and found herself standing on a pile of old bones. OK, this whole thing was creeping her out more than a little bit. But, when Inuyasha began his ‘trash talking’ again, she forced herself to focus on that.
Though she felt it was part of her ‘job’ to help Inuyasha, despite the fact that he could be such a jerk, she wasn’t about to get in the middle of the two brothers fighting. However, she couldn’t help but interject herself in a verbal way, pointing out why he should pull the old beat up katana even if he didn’t want the thing.
When that idea didn’t work, she gave a mental sigh and shrug. Well, at least it sounded good at the time. Staying out of the way as the half-brothers battled, she then spied that little toad thing that had come with Sesshomaru about to try to interfere. Oh no, she was not going to let that happen! Jumping, she landed right on top of him. Once he got up there was a bit of a shoving match between the two of them. She ended up falling after a shove from him. Mentally cursing the kappa, she put her hand on the platform the sword was stuck in then grabbed the pommel of it to help herself up. Seeing the daiyoukai about to deliver what could be a death blow on her dog-eared friend, she yelled, “Inuyasha,” then started to move that direction to try to help. But in doing so, she forgot to let go of the old, beat up katana. Instead of being pulled up short, it came free from the platform and she found herself holding it. Look at it, she said, “Oops!”
The clinking sound of the blade coming free drew everyone’s attention and all heads snapped her direction.
Looking at the sword, she gulped and said, in a small voice, “It just came out!” Seeing the looks she was getting, she muttered, “Sorry.”
Looking the sword up and down, she felt something strange from it, as though it were pulsing in her hand as though it were alive. “Now what?” She asked, more to herself than anyone else.
Of course, because of the fact that the thing was free and in her had Sesshomaru focused fully on her. That made her skin crawl and a knot form in her stomach. Inuyasha tried to distract him but it didn’t work. Really, she didn’t think it would but she had hoped. In seconds, he was standing in front of her, looking her up and down. That look, one that was cold and calculating, made chills dance up and down her spine. Giving an “eep,” she cringed back as he asked who she was and how she was able to accomplish such a thing when both he and Inuyasha had failed at it.
Once more, Inuyasha tried to get the big inu to leave her alone but it wasn’t going to work. Even a threat from her to use the old thing on him accomplished nothing. But, when Inuyasha told her to give it to Sesshomaru and she argued the point with him then bluntly refused, the daiyoukai had reached the end of his patience with both of them.
Eyes widening when she saw his hand once more turn green, she yelled for Inuyasha and tried to cringe away but it was no help as his poison began to pelt her. Eyes screwed shut, she could hear Inuyasha yell her name but knew there really wasn’t any way he could do anything to help her. It was too late for that. All she could hope for was something to intervene before it got any worse. Holding the sword up like a shield, as if that old thing would be of any use, she turned her face away and hoped for something to come along.
But, suddenly, she felt something like very strong arms around her and hands wrap around hers on the pommel. Then she heard a very deep, modulated voice whisper in her ear, “Don’t worry young lady, you’re safe. I’ll protect you.” Knowing better, she couldn’t help herself and her eyes flew open but she couldn’t see anything being near her. All she saw was a green haze of coagulated poison. Through it she could see Sesshomaru and Inuyasha were once more fighting, the kappa was watching them and Myoga was no where that she could see.
As Inuyasha was once more cussing out his half-brother, the whole tomb began to shake violently as though there was a massive earthquake. As the dust and debris began to fall, the whole thing seemed to be lit up with some kind of blue, swirling light that seemed to emanate from the bones themselves. As the shaking increased, a throb like a loud heartbeat could be heard and a massive power that felt like lightning seemed to dance across her skin. Somewhere deep inside her it seemed that something was pulling something from her. Though the voice told her she was protected she was scared, very scared, not understand what was going on.
xXx
When the pearl had opened, he had awoken from his long years of sleep. Waiting, he listened to all that was going on. When he felt and heard his oldest son, he gave a mental sigh. He had known deep inside that Sesshomaru would try to get the sword. But he felt better when the spell he had put on it worked. Then he heard two other voices, female and male. When he heard the name Inuyasha, he was heartened. The son he had never known had come to claim his birthright.
While listening to the brothers fight, he gave an internal growl. Damn it! This had not been what he wanted! But there wasn’t any way he could put a stop to it, he was in the damn sword.
When the fight escalated and he was fairly certain, from some of the things said, that Sesshomaru was instigating it and most certainly held his half-brother in a great deal of disdain, he mentally ground his teeth. How he wanted to put a stop to this! When Sesshomaru had found out Inuyasha’s mother was pregnant his anger had known no bounds. With him not around to quell things, it sounded as though it had been very bad between the brothers. In fact, from what he was hearing, neither of them would have much of a problem killing the other. Never had he felt so helpless in the whole of his existence.
After both of his sons tried to pull the sword he waited. Hoping against hope, he waited for the girl to try. If she were human or even hanyou, she would succeed. No, he couldn’t physically help Inuyasha but hopefully it would help the boy even up the odds. As he well knew, Sesshomaru was a formidable opponent that had weaponry at his disposal because of what he was. He was sure Inuyasha didn’t have those things. Because he died shortly after his youngest son was born, he knew nothing about the boy or what he could do. So, the best he could hope for was that his son could hold his own against his half-brother.
When the girl finally grabbed the hilt of the sword, he was relieved. Indeed, it was a human and that meant he could help Inuyasha if the boy played his cards right. But then he felt it: her power. Oh Kami did she have power! When he had set this whole plan into action before his death, all he wanted to do was what he accomplished: instill his spirit into the katana, nothing more. When that was set in place by the youkai sorceress Totosai had used he had learned that there was a very infinitesimal chance he could find a way back after he died but he never wanted that. But a powerful miko was holding his old fang. Could he? Dare he? The way he saw it he had the chance and had to take it.
Concentrating, he tried to pull from her what he needed. Quickly, he found he could and it was easier than he anticipated. Excitement building up in him, he realized it was going to work!

When the tomb began to shake and the blue light filled the grave both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru stopped fighting.
“What the hell? What’s going on Sesshomaru?” The hanyou asked, looking around bewildered.
Although the daiyoukai heard the boy’s question, he didn’t answer. Honestly, he had no clue what was happening either. As far as he could tell, when he had first stepped into his father’s final resting place, there were no spells or enchantments in place. The only item that had such a thing was the sword. Nor had he ever heard of one that would cause the reaction that he was witnessing.
Looking around, he took in what was going on. Then he once more glanced at the girl who had managed to pull his father’s fang. Though his facial expression never changed, he was stunned. Standing behind the ningen onna was a faint blurry outline of a being that seemed to have its arms wrapped around her. Though it wasn’t much more than an outline with only the faintest of details he knew who it was. Stunned, all he could do was wait as the swirling blue energy seemed to shoot into that all but ethereal form, making it become more defined and slowly shift into something more lifelike.
Stepping up by Sesshomaru, Inuyasha stared at Kagome, shock evident on his face. “What the hell is that?” He asked in a hoarse whisper.
Within a matter of a couple minutes, the form had completely solidified and became a large male inuyoukai in armor. Eyes fractionally wider than normal, Sesshomaru felt his hear begin to beat faster and his chest tightening a bit. “Father…” he managed to say in an almost awed whisper.
xXx
Eyes so wide they were almost falling out of her head, Kagome felt something solidify around her. Then those strong arms felt more ‘real’ and seemed to hold her a bit tighter. That strange light then stopped, as did the shaking. Suddenly, she felt exhausted in a way she hadn’t in a very long time. It had become a struggle to keep her eyes open and her legs felt like they were going to give out on her.
That same voice then said, a bit louder and no longer the soft whisper it had been, “I’ll take the sword little one.”
Though she knew it was intended for Inuyasha, she gave it up, not having the will or energy to fight. All she could seem to think about was sitting down. After she felt the sword being taken she then felt herself being scooped up in those same powerful arms and being held, cradled, to a broad chest. Hearing a loud, heavy heartbeat she felt her eyes growing heavy but fought it, trying to keep them open.
“Sleep little one, you’re safe with me.” That voice told her.
Though she wanted to look and see who had a hold of her but she didn’t have the energy. Letting her eyes slide shut she soothed herself with the knowledge that she wasn’t getting any vibes from him and none of her warning flares had been set off. Then she promised herself she would look at him when she woke up. “Thanks.” She said in a muffled, slurry voice as she drifted away.

After taking Tetsusaiga and sheathing it, he looked down at the young onna in his arms until she fell asleep. Really, he felt bad because it was he that had drained all her energy and exhausted her. He decided immediately that he was going to repay her for this and already come up with a way to do that. But now was not the time and place for that. For now, he needed to concentrate on his two sons and what the ramifications of his return were going to be. After another glance at the little onna and a deep breath that filled his nose with her unique scent he focused on his two boys.
When he heard Sesshomaru whisper, “father,” he gave a smirk that made it readily apparent where both his sons inherited theirs from.
xXx
Unable to believe his eyes, Sesshomaru just stared at the being he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt was dead. He had seen his body when it had been brought back to the fortress so he knew that his father had been dead. So how was it he was here?
Next thing his mind skipped to was how things were going to change for him. Since his father’s demise, he had assumed his rightful place as Western Lord and all the power that came with it. Now, with his father back, he could very well lose all of that. With his father around everything could revert back to him. That wasn’t something he wanted. He had waited for years to take his rightful place and assume the mantle of leadership, assuming all the power that came with it. Also, he had waited for years to become top dog, so to speak, and be considered among the most powerful youkai in Japan. Finally, he had been able to step out of his father’s shadow and be able to pursue his bespeak for supreme conquest. Yes, he would freely admit that he wanted, craved and loved power of all kinds. He fully planned to become the most powerful youkai in Japan. Now that was in danger.
His father had always been incomparable in stature in so many ways. He was one of very few beings that he had never been able to beat. Now that being was back. Once more, he would be hidden in his shadow as he had been for so long. What was this going to mean for him and how was he going to handle it? Those were questions he had no answers for but wanted them, desperately.
But, before he asked those, there was one other he wanted to first. Stepping closer, he gazed in disdain at the human female in his sire’s arms then looked at his father. “How is it you have returned?” He asked quietly.
xXx
Staying back, Inuyasha watched the whole thing with avid interest. He heard what Sesshomaru said and wondered if this really was his father. Because he had been a newborn when the old man died, he had no memories of him. Yes, he had seen paintings of him and this being looked the same but was it really him?
But his thoughts then skipped to what he felt was more important: Kagome. He saw she was out cold in the beings arms. At this point, she was his first priority. Despite what he might spout to her he really liked her, even that big mouth of hers. Then there was the fact that she had helped him with this whole mess and even stood up to Sesshomaru and refused to give him the sword. Even knowing that she was in danger and he may well try to kill her for it she had done it anyway. That was pretty damn special in his eyes. So she came first.
“Kagome!” He yelled then rushed forwards to check on her.
xXx
Though he heard Sesshomaru’s question first he focused on Inuyasha rushing towards him. Since he felt Inuyasha’s concern was the more pressing one it would come first.
When the boy was close, he put his hand on his shoulder, stopping him. “She’s fine Inuyasha, just asleep is all.” He told his youngest son in a calm voice.
“What did you do to her?” He shouted. Now he was really worried about her. Something had to have happened to her to make her that tired that quickly. He heard Sesshomaru tell him to show his father the respect he deserved but ignored it, continuing to glare at the older male. “Tell me!” He demanded.
“Calm down son. She’s perfectly fine. It’s just a normal sleep. I assure you I did nothing to harm her at all. I just drew from her miko powers to return is all. That’s what wore her out. After a bit of a rest she’ll be good as new, I promise.” Putting a hand on his youngest son’s head, he ruffled his hair affectionately. “I’m pleased I finally get a chance to meet you Inuyasha.”
Not sure what to say to that, Inuyasha just replied, “Yeah, same here.”
By that point Sesshomaru had walked over to join them. Looking at his oldest son, Togaou smiled at him as well then reached over and gave Sesshomaru’s shoulder an affectionate squeeze. “It’s good to see you as well Sesshomaru.”
“And I you father.” Sesshomaru replied automatically.
Looking around his tomb, Togaou saw the skeleton was still there but appeared to be almost transparent, as though everything in the bones had been sucked out. The armor appeared to be the same way. Smirking once more, he thought about the fact that he had managed to cheat death. Though the intent for that hadn’t been there when things were put into motion the result was the same. But now wasn’t the time to ponder that, other more important things needed attending to first.
Looking at Sesshomaru, he asked, “The Fortress is still there and under your control, is it not?”
“Of course.” Sesshomaru told him with a nod, bristling at the notion that he may have done something to lose the family controlled bastion.
Nodding, Togaou said, “Good. You take Inuyasha, without fighting or snide remarks, and I’ll meet you there with the girl. Once we settle down there I’ll explain what has gone on. After that’s done there are things we have to work out and get straight.”
“Alright father.” Sesshomaru told him with a nod. No, he wasn’t liking this, not at all, but he also wasn’t going to argue with the patriarch either. “How will you get there? You should take it easy after what has just gone on.
“Thank you for your concern son but after so long I’m in need of a bit of stretching and exercise. I’ll be fine.” After a look at both boys, he gave a nod then, with one powerful leap, exited what used to be his tomb.
Face still expressionless, Sesshomaru watched his father’s progress until he could no longer be seen. Already his mind whirred with questions and concerns he had no answers to.
Inuyasha also watched his father’s progress, ears twitching nervously. “Is that really our old man, Sesshomaru?” He asked quietly.
Nodding, Sesshomaru replied, “Yes, from what I can tell that is, indeed, father. Though I know not how he managed to return.”
Tucking his hands into his sleeves, ears still twitching a bit, eyes locked on the place where he and Kagome vanished from sight. “Why did he take Kagome? Does he want something from her? She usually sticks with me all the time. Why did he want her with him?”
“That’s something else I have no answer to Inuyasha.” The daiyoukai conceded. Though, in that area, he may well have a clue. As he was well aware from past experience with his father he was, at least in the past, quite the onna’s man. If that wasn’t bad enough, though it was an accepted vice by upper level youkai, he had a taste for ningen onnas. That had been self proving with Inuyasha’s mother. From what he had witnessed and knew from past experiences this was eerily familiar in nature. No, he wasn’t sure that was the case this time and he hoped like hell he was wrong but already there was a creeping dread slithering in like a cold nighttime fog. Somehow, he knew this wouldn’t end well.
Shifting the focus of the questions lightly, he told Inuyasha. “The ningen will be fine with father, never fear. We had better get out of here and follow him.” He said gruffly. Then, with one graceful leap, he exited the tomb.
Still confused about just what the hell was going on, Inuyasha shook his head. Seeing Sesshomaru leave him, he shouted, “Hey! Wait up!” Then followed.
xXx
Once out of his tomb Togaou hopped onto one of the skeletal birds that circled around then headed towards the porthole that led out of the netherworld.
When his feet hit dirt for the first time in so many years, he shut his eyes and took a deep breath, taking in the cool, fresh night air. Oh yes, it felt wonderful after all those years closed up in that sword. Glancing down at the tiny onna sleeping cradled to his chest, his eyes softened a bit and the corners of his mouth turned upwards. He had a lot to repay her for and planned on doing so in the right way. But now wasn’t the time or place for that, there were other more important things that needed attending to.
Feeling bad about it, knowing she had to be completely exhausted, he gently shook her to wake her. “Kagome...” he said quietly so not to startle her too much.
Muttering a bit, she grunted softly but didn’t wake up.
“Kagome, you need to wake up.” He said to her a bit louder, shaking her a bit harder.
Eyes drooping open, she rubbed her hand across her face. Honestly, she was bone tired. Looking up, she found herself staring into a very unfamiliar face. Though he resembled both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, she had no idea who he was. Eyes widening, she stiffened, trying to decide what to do next.
Sensing her rising anxiety, he gave her a reassuring squeeze. “There is nothing to fear Kagome. You’re safe with me. I’m Inuyasha and Sesshomaru’s father. I won’t explain right now how I managed to come back; I’ll save that for later. Now, I’m going to put you down so you can hop on my back. We’re going to head to the Western Fortress.”
Alright, it was official, she was confused. But she wasn’t picking up anything from him that indicated deceit or danger. “Where’s Inuyasha?” She asked quietly.
“I imagine he and Sesshomaru are on their way here right now. They’re going to meet us at the Fortress.” Gently, he sat her down on her feet, an arm around her to make sure she stayed steady on her feet.
“Alright.” She told him with a nod. Looking around, she tried to spy where her bike and backpack were.
“What are you looking for?” He asked, trying to follow her line of sight.
“My backpack, I need it.” She explained, pointing to where the pack was lying.
“Alright.” He told her with a nod. Taking her arm, he led her over to the odd looking bag that way lying against a tree. Once she picked it up and slipped it on, he presented her with his back. “Hop on. Hold on tight. I’m going to shift to my true from. Just hold on tightly to my fur once I do.”
“OK.” She said with a nod then hopped onto his back as she always did with Inuyasha.
When he was sure that she had a hold of him tightly, he shut his eyes and let his true from take over. When all four of his furry white paws were planted firmly on the ground, he held still while she shifted around. When he felt her stop moving, he looked up at the moon. After a loud bay, he took to the skies and headed west.
xXx
Eyes shut against the cold night wind that was whipping around her, Kagome clung tightly to the giant furry back she was on while they soared along at a breathtaking speed. The wind, as it howled by them, was cold but she burrowed deeper into the mass of fur and stayed warm. The rocking motion as he seemed to run though the sky was soothing and once more, she found herself dozing back off.
xXx
As he ran, he enjoyed the feeling of the wind rippling through his fur as it whistled by him. It felt so good to stretch his body this way after so long. After only a couple minutes in the air all the kinks seemed to be worked out and he felt great. All his great strength and power had fully returned. He felt in top form and at the top of his game.
Turning his thoughts to the young onna on his back, he gave an internal smirk. So powerful was his first thought. Over his lifetime he had met many mikos but none with the power this one has. Not only that, she was the perfect age, ripe for the picking. To top all of that, she was still innocent. Simply perfect. Now she would be his. But there were things that needed worked out with that before it could happen.
First thing was he needed to figure out just what her relationship was with Inuyasha. There was no way he wanted to step on his youngest son’s toes if there was something of a romantic nature going on. Once he found out what was what there he would work from that point.
Once that was all sorted he then had a worse situation to deal with: Sesshomaru. Hitching a deep mental sigh, he thought about his oldest son. Before he died there were problems between the two of them beyond the fiasco with Inuyasha’s mother. He had known for a long time how power hungry the boy was. Now he was sure that had grown much worse. With him back he was positive there were going to be issues that would have to be dealt with. So it was going to be fully up to him to nip it in the bud before it went too far.
With the plan that was slowly forming in his mind he might be able to head the worst of it off at the pass before it went any further than it already had. There was a way that they could share power and Sesshomaru would finally be on equal footing with him, power-wise. That part alone would probably be enough to get the boy to agree with the plan. If not, if he fought it, he could always fall back to the old standby of making sure his son knew who the dominant one really was. Even before his death, the boy had a strong streak of arrogance in him. Yes, to a degree, some of it was well earned. But it went beyond that. He was certain that now, with him being gone for so long, that it was unbridled and knew no bounds. It was time it was reined in a bit and he had no compunction knocking it out of him.
Leaving that topic behind he moved to the one that would be brought up after it if the boy were to accept what he was going to propose. Even if Sesshomaru accepted the proposal without a fight there were going to be problems dealing with the situation. In fact, he was sure that area was going to be a hotbed of conflict. It was there he was going to have the most problems. But, despite the fight that was sure to come from it, things were going to be done his way; that was the final word on the topic. Sesshomaru could fight him all the wanted on it, this was a battle the he would win. Hopefully the boy would learn that quickly and accept his fate. Beyond that, even if it went smoothly, there was still a lot of work that was going to have to be done, especially on Sesshomaru’s end. Plus there would be no easy way to go about it. Time and patience was what it was going to take and a lot of both. He was going to make sure Sesshomaru knew that. Also, he was going to have to make sure he understood that how long and how much work it was going to take would be entirely up to him. He and he alone could make it easy or hard. It was that simple.
Finally, he saw the Fortress come into view. With a big internal grin, he began to descend, glad to be coming home after so many years.
