Kagome screamed, slashing yet another of Naraku’s tentackles away. She then purified others. It was a process she had been successfully doing for what seemed a long time, but had been only the last twenty minutes.
As the next onslaught of Naraku’s vile offspring approached, she charged her sword with her holy power. While trying to catch a short breath, she wiped her brow and scanned the battlefield. It was hard to see through the masses of demons, but she could at least Sesshoumaru was in the vicinity.
He had joined the group as his desire to rid his lands of Naraku had become priority. He wanted peace within the Western Domain so bad that it did not matter that he had to work with his half-brother to reach his goal. When he had joined, he had made it his duty to train the Inu-tachi to its full potential, including Kagome.
The shrine maiden from the future only had her holy powers working for her and her semi-good archery talent. Sesshoumaru trained Kagome with the sword and even commissioned a s word made by Totosai to help her reach her full potential. Sesshoumaru believed that they needed to be their best to overcome Naraku. While they had done a good job trying to face off with the vile half demon, they had no refined skills.
In fact, Sesshoumaru had ended up commissioning two swords for Kagome after he had discovered that she was ambidextrous. Even though he now wielded Bakusaiga, he had been privileged to see Miyamoto Musashi execute his duel sword move. He knew Kagome would be able to pull off such a feat, even though she was human. Miyamoto Musashi had been a seasoned warrior, experienced in dueling the best of Japan’s samurai and elite swordsmen.
The bonus of training Kagome was that she healed what Bakusaiga has not restored, which was the strength and poisons he had before InuYasha had severed his arm. She even shared some of the information of the future from her textbooks.
InuYasha had not been happy about the training, insisting is was his duty to protect Kagome and that she had no business wielding a sword. It was Sango that had persuaded him to allow Kagome to learn the way of the sword. . . with her Hiraikotsu.
It took Sesshoumaru a year and a half to train Kagome to his satisfaction. It was then that Naraku had conveniently decided to ditch his conniving and cowardly schemes by just showing up.
The fight itself was nothing short of epic, The sky was blackened with hordes of demons that had been released from the hells within Naraku. Eventually Sango had made her way to Sessoumaru’s side and was finally able to hold their ground.
Kohaku and Miroku were not far off from Kagome’s other side. Two months before, Kohaku somehow managed to escape Naraku’s grasp and had stumbled upon the Inu-tachi nearly half dead. He quickly confessed that he had ripped the tainted shard from his back not caring if he would have died, but he instead remained alive. After freeing himself of Naraku and the shard, he had regained his memory.
InuYasha unleashed the Adamant Barrage from the opposite side of Kagome, making her duck from stray diamond pieces. The attack effectively penetrated Naraku’s barrier.
“Priestess!” Sesshoumaru called out.
Kagome slashed through more of Naraku’s demon horde and looked to the demon lord.
She nodded to him and pulled together her powers. Even though she did not have arrows, she had confidence in channeling her ki into her sword. She only needed one, so she sheathed one of her swords. The one she chose to use glowed a brilliant blue.
The power she put within buzzed throughout her body. She was shocked to see her power physically manifest into a blue color when she usually produced a pink holy power.
Sesshoumaru noticed and made a mental note. Priestess exuded a pink or white power. A power released that looked blue was something produced by demons or someone with some demonic power.
‘Is she partially demon?’ he wondered.
Kagome knew that hacking at the hordes would not suffice, so she decided to take a risky approach… she would throw her charged sword at Naraku!
She was not sure if it would work, but the multitude of demons coming out of his body made it nearly impossible to advance. She remembered the time when she had nearly decimated the vile nemesis, and he had barely escaped with his head intact. That had been when she had been untrained and fairly new to even knowing that she had any type of power at her fingertips.
She held her her sword like a javelin, not caring that the blade bit in her skin. She then ran and then threw it with all that he had.
The sword was encompassed in a vibrant blue. It was intense and nearly blinding, so much that Kagome had to cover her eyes. Naraku never knew what hit him. He already had been pierced by InuYasha’s attacked and was trying to regenerate. Her sword struck through Naraku’s head. It was like Naraku turned from InuYasa’s attack to face Kagome’s own attack.
She watched as Naraku dissolved before her shocked eyes. She had expected him to escape once again, but it was like a scene in the end of a slow motion movie scene where the main character came out victorious.
She blinked several times to make sure what she was seeing was true. She even mumbled a few hurried pleas to any god overlooking that what she was witnessing, was not a joke.
He purified into nothing but ashes, leaving the Shikon jewel glinting maliciously on the ground.
Kagome felt like she was having an outer body experience. She was not someone who was successful in anything. She was clumsy and untalented. However, in this moment, she was reacting naturally to something that was life changing.
Naraku’s death by her hands signaled that she was not the weak priestess that InuYasha kept trashing talking about to others. She was not a copy! She could finally hold her own!
The whole experience put her brain in overload. The last thing she could remember as her vision darkened, was hearing InuYasha groan as he ran to catch Kagome from her fall.
“Someone retrieve the wench’s sword and the jewel. We’re going back to Edo,” InuYasha shouted as he secured Kagome in his arms.
Sesshoumaru took it upon himself to retrieve both. He tucked Kagome’s sword in his sash and followed behind the other members of the Inu-tachi as they departed the battlefield. He was very disappointed that Naraku had not put up much of a challenge, but did he not stay upon those thoughts long. It was Kagome who he was concerned about now.
