Video Killed the Radio Star

Just clarifying a couple of things. First off, Sesshoumaru and Kagome are both HUMAN. Just in case anyone is confused.

Secondly, I originally posted this with the author's note saying to let me know if you liked the story so I could continue it. Perhaps I could've worded that a bit better. I recognse that the basic plot of "Sesshoumaru being a boss and Kagome being a secretary" was not quite original, but I wanted to add a new twist on an idea that has been commonly written here in the fandom. I wanted to know if there was general interest for the story, or if I should discard it. I certaintly did NOT mean to say I was demanding reviews, and I apologize to any readers or Dokuga members if it was taken in that manner. Again, let me state, I apologize.

Ok, one final note. Ugh. You know, the text thingy likes to play letsmashallthetexttogether. I literally deleted this story and started over. Sorry about that. Take Two!

It was a typical workday, really.

She had just finished her last mundane assignment of the day when she sat back in her chair and took a deep breath. It was hard for her to believe that she had only been here a year- time seemed to drag within her small and cramped cubicle.

"Hey, Higurashi-san?" a feminine voice piped up behind her. Kagome turned around and smiled up at her co-worker and condifdente, Sango. "Hey."

"You going to the seminar this weekend? I heard the VP will actually make an appearance this time." she giggled, her hands expressive with her emotions as her tone was laced with sarcasm.

"Oooh, big whoop. The VP! I might have to wear my mini-skirt for that one." she retorted, rolling her eyes. "I'm sure he's just an old fart. Well, to answer your question, yes. I am going. I can feel like I'm this-close" holding her pinched figners together for emphasis "to a promotion and I figured this would look good enough to help stick me in the running for once. There's been rumors of an opening a bit up the ladder, and I want in."

Sango nodded. "Well, good luck! Hope it helps." She pulled her purse strap up higher on her shoulder and bowed slightly. "Later, Higurashi-san."

Kagome waved her off dismissively. "Later."

The day finally ended, and she made her way to the restroom. Running a comb through her hair, applying some fresh lip gloss, and smoothing the wrinkles from her clothing, she headed downstairs to the conference room where the weekend seminar would be held. Skipping dinner, she stepped inside the room, eager to get started with preparing herself a little bit early. She sat herself in a seat and started to read over the materials layed out before her. Her pen was already out, her eyes scanning for places to take notes.

See, Higurashi Kagome really, really needed to get a life.

She was aged twenty-four. She graduated college with medicore marks, yet it was from a respectable enough of a university to help her land the current job. She worked for a banking company in the filing department. Her job was boring enough to ensure multiple trips to the coffee machine each day, yet it paid the bills so she really couldn't complain. She lived in a medium sized apartment home with no pets, no children, and no family. She wore middle-class store-brand clothing, lived alone, and her idea of a good night was curling up with a good book and a bowl of popcorn.

It was pathetic.

She only dated a handful of times, not a single man ever doing "it" for her. She wasn't a virgin, but she never had a truly pleasurable sexual experience. It was always....just "so-so". She kept herself clean and well-kept, but she never thought herself as "pretty". Just...tidy. Sometimes, she felt as if she was bursting at the seams- all she wanted was a boyfriend, or someone who seemed to stick around and be interested in her. Someone who kept her guessing. Someone who could breathe a bit of much-needed passion into her life. Sure, she wasn't that exciting and the most enticing catch for adventurous men- she was just Higurashi Kagome. A simple girl, a simple mind, and a simple woman.

The door opened, and she looked up at the individual walking in and gave a quiet nod of notice. Dressed in a grey designer suit, and a black cotton silk blended dress shirt that hugged his slender yet muscular frame, and his face framed by long bangs, Kagome's heart lurched in her chest. His light brown eyes glowed almost golden in the evening sunset beaming in through the high-rise window. His black locks were slick and tied back neatly in a low band at the nape of his neck, his chisled jaw perfectly sculpted. He looked older- perhaps in his late thirties, yet she couldn't take her eyes off of him.

From the moment she saw him, she knew.

He leaned casually against the window, reading through his papers for a moment before looking up at her with a quiet, polite greeting. "Good evening."

Kagome's breath was stuck in her throat. 'Oh god....um...answer. Answeransweranswer!' She smiled, bowing her head gently. "Konbon wa, uma...."

"Taishou.."

She blushed. "Taishou-sempai, gozaimasu. Higurashi Kagome-san, gozaimasu."

He smiled politely back at her before his eyes returned to his paperwork. "Arigato, Higurashi-san" Together, they both read in silence...well, she at least pretended to read, anyways. Her heart raced. 'Oh my goodness...he's perfect! I never thought I'd like an older guy...but he's so handsome, quiet, and refined...just like everything I could ever want! And he's polite! Gah!' She tried to keep her senses at bay. Her senses tingled and a small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. 'Ok, calm down Kagome...you don't know the guy. Down girl!'

A few of her colleagues entered, and shortly before the seminar was to begin, the object of her affections snuck out of the meeting. She feared leaving to go after him for a multitude of reasons, however.

For one, the Vice President would likely be showing up at any moment.

For two, what would she say to him, a total stranger?

And finally, there was a strict "no fraternization" policy in the workplace. Even if she liked him, and even IF he liked her as well, they would have to keep their relationship secret.

She sighed, turning to the papers and focusing on her work instead.

The Vice President never showed, and about four hours later, the seminar was dismissed for the day. Now nine o'clock at night and starving, Kagome headed straight to the train station. After a short ride on the Yokohama line, she stepped offthe platform and dailed her favorite Izakuya joint. 'I could seriously eat one of everything right now...' she mused as she walked into the small, warm honestyle bar.

"Ah, your order is ready Higurashi-san. An order of takoyaki, yakisoba, and yakitori. Comes to 1450 Yen."

She nodded, paid, and headed home. Unlocking the door, slipping off her heels in exchange for her plush Givenchy knock-off slippers, she set her food down on the table. Opening a cheap bottle of sake, she helped herself to her favorite snack and secret indulgence of takoyaki. She put on the news, and sat back to enjoy her relaxing evening.

'Tomorrow the seminar is all day. I'll get up at 7am and go over the notes from today and get there a little bit early- 8:45am should be ok. Hopefully we'll be concluded by 5pm. It's a Saturday night, after all.'

A twinge of lonliness could be felt. So what if it was a Saturday? She had no special plans- no boyfriend, dates, buddies, nothing. She had no social life whatsoever. Finishing off the takoyaki, she prodded over to the computer, flicking the button inward and hearing the machine whirl to life. Moments later, her yakisoba in hand, the web cam was ready.

"You know...this stinks. It's almost 22:00, and I'm just now eating dinner. I'm still thinking about my job. I don't have a date. I don't have any friends to go clubbing with...I just really, really stink at social situations..." pausing to shove a mouthful of yakisoba and munching on the oily, salty goodness, she pondered over her past experiences. "I mean, last time I went to a social event was the New Year's Office party. I tried to ask this cute guy out, and apparently it was my co-worker's husband. American married couples wear rings...come on Nippon, really? Seriously, that was embarrassing and it made me look pathetic."

A scowl came over her face as she recalled other details, momentarily putting her food down. "Uh, and as I apologized profusely, I got nervous....and uh...kinda threw up all over the both of them." Cringing now, her face blushing and her shoulders slumping, "I hate my social anxiety. I've never been good around other people. I hate meeting new people and that whole awkward getting-to-know-you phase. The most I can do is record little video journals and I don't even have the guts to put it up youtube!"

Putting the yakisoba away, she slugged back her sake with a well-excersized finesse. "Ok, ok Kagome. Calm down! There was something the happened...I did, believe it or not, meet someone today. And I actually talked to him! Well...ten words, anyways. He was super, super fine. I think my heart stopped there for a moment. I know, I know...I don't know anything about him...but he's handsome, quiet, polite, dresses well...and has no funky odors like Kouga did! I'm in love!" She giggled girlishly, a blush on her cheeks. Then, it faded away as she realized one very important fact..

"Wait, how am I going to talk to him?"
