A/N: wow… it’s been how long sense I’ve written something? Now first things first, this is the first time I’ve written something so… weird worded. Almost like old English sounding. Now I know only nobles speak the way that Kagome and Sesshomaru speak in her. I swear there will be an explanation for this. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy and tell me what you think. Have fun.
Chapter one: You are No Lord of Mine!
Her breath was short, her legs burned something fierce. She cursed under her breath the best she could. How long had she been running, Kagome didn’t know. All she knew was that she had no one to rely on. Her family, killed. Her friends long gone.
She saw a cave nearby and quickly darted to it, barely able to squeeze into the small crack in the cliff face. Tears ran down her cheek as she moved sideways farther into the cave till she couldn’t go any farther. Her hand went quickly over her mouth as she tried her best to quiet her breathing.
“Where are you my ssssssweet?” The large snake purred as it began to slither by. Its black scales glittered in the dimming light. “You cannot hide from me.” Its large tongue darted out as if it tasted the air, trying to find her.
Kagome held back a whimper as her eyes were tightly shut. She prayed to the gods to have mercy on her. To spare her from being the snake demon’s next dinner.
“I sssshall find you.” It hissed as it began to slither away from her.
Kagome stood there; counting the seconds, minutes, praying it couldn’t come back. The dimming light finally turned to darkness marking day to night. Only then did she let out a small sob as she slowly sank to her knees on the cold damp floor of her small cave. She was alive. She was alive but alone. Silently she began to sob as her arms wrapped around her cold body. Soon her body succumbed to sleep.

“Kagome!”
The dark haired girl turned and smiled at her best friend as he ran up to her.
“Inuyasha be careful.” She laughed as she rolled her sleeves up. “I don’t want you crushing the rice before I get to it.”
The silver haired man snorted. “Whatever wench. “ His dog like ears turned back slightly as if he was embarrassed. “What are you doing this afternoon?”
Kagome shrugged as she began to pick the rice once more. Her feet were starting to get a bit sore from standing in the murky water for so long. “Not sure. I know Sango is going hunting with the men later. And I’m sure mother would want me to wash the rice. You’re more than welcome to help me if you wish.”
He huffed at her suggestion. “You honestly think that someone as important as me will wash rice?”
Kagome laughed. “I’ll see you before dusk then.” Seeing the man glare at her before storming off, the girl let out a laugh once more.
She was happy. Even for a small poor present girl, Kagome was as happy as she could be. She worked on the rice fields with the other women, had a very happy family, and friends that she loved. War would never reach them and demons never attacked. When they would, they would have Sango and the other men defend their village. It was a happy life. She would never trade it for riches or anything.
“Kagome!” Sango called out as she rushed over to her.
Kagome stood, and placed the basket to her side. Really, was everyone going to interrupt her? “Yes?” She asked.
“Miroku! He-He-He!”
The girl laughed once more. “Did he finally get the courage to propose to you?”
Sango nodded happily as she held back the urge to squeal. “He did! He’s t my parents’ house right now asking my father permission!”
“I’m happy for you dear friend.” Kagome smiled softly. “Now let’s see if I can find myself a good man to help me out.”
Sango giggled. “Why not Inuyasha? We all know you two like each other.”
A slight blush dusted Kagome’s tanned cheeks. “Don’t say that! He’s far too good for someone like me.” Though she wished. Oh how she wished. But she knew better than anyone that Inuyasha only had eyes for her dear sister Kikyou.
DONGDONGDONGDONG
Kagome froze before she acted quickly. The bell was being rung which meant there was a demon coming. She looked for her friend only to see Sango already running off. She didn’t know that that would be the last time she ever saw any of her friends ever again.

The girl shivered slightly as she felt droplets of water hit her face. Slowly she opened her earth like eyes and slowly looked around. Her whole body hurt so much. All from running and sleeping on the cold hard ground. She could hear the sounds of birds chirping in the distance telling her that it was finally safe to leave the cave.
Slowly she crawled out of the wedge in the stone wall and could see in the distance a large lake. A small sigh escaped her chapped lips as she began to crawl down the steep hill till she tumbled and fell to the lake edge.
“Today isn’t looking too bright.” She muttered to herself as she picked up her bruised and battered body. Cupping her hands by the water, she began to drink, grateful for the cool water running down her throat. She needed to think of what to do. The best thing would be to retrace her steps and find her village again. Find it and see how bad it was. Maybe… just maybe she saw wrong. But a small broken chuckle in the back of her throat told her that no, she was wrong. She did see right. Kagome was the last of her village. Everyone was gone.
“I got it!” A voice called from the distance.
Kagome spun around quickly as there were loud crashes heading her way. The sound had her frozen in spot even as a large two tailed cat burst though the greenery. It hissed and spat at her as if daring Kagome to try anything. But that’s not what she noticed.
“You village girl! Move!” A dark haired male said on a black steed. His hair was long and braided with a blue star on his forehead which marked him to be royalty. Or one who was very close to royalty. On his shoulder was a giant blade specked with dirt and green from leaves that he must have cut down to get to the lake. “Are you deaf woman? Move! That beast is dangerous and needs to be brought down!”
Kagome glared at the man before standing before him and the large fire cat. “I will not.” She snapped.
Two more horses came into the clearing with one demon, and another man riding on them. The last came a two headed dragon with a silver haired demon ridding on top.
“What seems to be the problem Bankotsu?” A dark haired demon asked. Kagome turned her attention to him, noticing his blue eyes, his wolf like furs and his long black hair that was tied up.
“Kouga! This village woman defends the beast.” Bankotsu chuckled. “She probably wishes for death by the beasts hands!”
The third man chuckled slightly as well. The girl couldn’t help to notice his purple robes that marked him as a priest. What would a holy man like him be doing hunting the fire cat? “Bank, be nice to the young lady. She seems to be slightly frightened.”
“I am not frightened!” Kagome snapped. “What you men are doing is nothing more than barbaric! She is innocent of whatever you accuse her of!”
Finally the silver haired man came up on his two headed dragon steed. He moved his long silver hair aside showing off his magenta stripes on his cheeks and his crescent moon mark on his brow. “Woman,” He said his voice smooth, “that beast has killed three of my men and is nothing more than wild. Remove yourself from our path so we may dispose of it.”
Kagome continued to stand in front of the fire cat who had finally become silent, watching the girl carefully. She put her arms out, blocking them even more. “I don’t know why she attacked your men, but she is wild because she is injured. You’re chasing after an injured cat so of course she’s going to attack!”
“You will silence yourself woman!” The man named Bankotsu snapped. “You are in the presence of Lord Sesshomaru! Ruler of the western lands!”
Kagome spat on the ground. “You are no lord of mine!” She shouted. “A lord who would rather chase a fire cat though the woods because of a few men, but will allow wild snake demons to destroy innocent villages is no lord! A lord is there for the people he rules over! So show me this lord who is right to rule and then I shall silence myself! Show him to me and I shall care. Till then you are nothing to me.”
The forest and lake around them became silent from Kagome’s words. No one dare to say anything. Instead all eyes were turned on the silver haired demon, seeing what he would do next.
Golden eyes watched Kagome carefully. “If you cannot help the beast, then it will be disposed of.”
Kagome huffed at him before turning around and carefully approaching the fire cat. Instantly the cat began to growl and hiss at her again as if Kagome was a threat.
“Shhh.” Kagome said softly as she held her hand out. “I wish to help you. Please.”
The cat soon stopped hissing at Kagome and soon titled her head. She sniffed the human girl’s hand and smelled no malice towards her. Soon she rubbed her nose against that soft, outstretched hand and whimpered slightly. She was tired and hurt all over. The kindness of this one human was nice, refreshing.
Kagome smiled as the fire cat disappeared in a slight puff of smoke and instead lay an injured kitten. Kagome picked the small kitten up and held her close. She had bruises and scratches everywhere as if someone had kicked her around.
“It seems that your men were killed out of self-defense.” Kagome said as she shot a glare to the silver haired man. “The injuries on this kitten tell me everything. They attacked her first, she defended herself. Seems you owe her an apology.”
Sesshomaru watched her and gave a small nod to his men. “What is your name woman?” He demanded.
Kagome arched an eyebrow at him. “I have no obligation to give my name to a man such as you.” She snapped.
“Fine. Woman it is. Kouga, take her on your horse. We ride back to the western palace.” He said before turning his dragon around.
Kouga chuckled. “Figures.” He muttered before ridding his horse over to Kagome. “Come girl, let’s go.”
Kagome turned her glare on the wolf. “I will not!” She snapped.
Kouga chuckled once more as he reached down and easily picked her up and slung her over his horse. “You don’t have a choice little girl.” He said with a laugh as he kicked his horse’s sides and took off in a gallop.
