Thirst by Breezy

Family Man

Author’s note: The story consists of a series of chronological one shots, unconnected for the most part. Enjoy.

Family Man

The sounds of a crying child roused Kagome from her light slumber. She tried to blink away her exhaustion to no avail and read the clock.

3:28 AM

Rising from the bed, Kagome barely registered the reek of cigar and musk from her husband. What time had he come home?

Why did she bother?

Swiftly picking up her babe, she moved to the kitchen and warmed up a bottle. The gentle thrum of the microwave calmed her frazzled nerves. Once fed and burped, she wearily rocked her child to sleep. She tried to relax, pushing down the desperation that threatened to overwhelm her. No matter how many times she told herself she could do this alone, she knew she simply couldn’t. The sound of rustling bed sheets caught her attention and she cast a surreptitious yet desperate look at her bedroom. Kagome knew not to get her hopes high but still she prayed for the much needed help.

The sound of gagging could be heard and Kagome tried not to sob. She couldn’t afford to. Slipping her baby into his crib, she strode to her bathroom and sighed at the sight of her beautiful bathtub covered in vomit.

“Is Takemaru asleep?”

Kagome nodded, too entranced at the scene that lay before her.

“Hn, good.”

Kagome watched her husband as he washed out his mouth and strode back to bed. The rush of water drowned the sounds of his snores out as Kagome turned on the shower. Closing the door, she slid to the ground and gave herself a moment to cry. It was the same routine, time after time and yet she could never get used to the simple fact.

Sesshoumaru was not a family man.

This was a strange one shot. It was supposed to be a simple one but became far harder to write then I originally thought. I expect that these one shots will flow much better in the future. Please review and let me know what you think.
