Sloth

A/N: So, I’m not going to lie here. I twisted and turned this idea, not sure how to work the prompt ‘Sloth’. I kept thinking it over and over again and couldn’t figure it out. Then it hit me hard. I will admit that I took this idea from the wonderful movie ‘Silence of the lambs’ and twisted it a LOT. Yes, this is a Sesshomaru/Kagome story. It’s just going to take a bit for it. And I will probably update this more as Skye gives more prompts for it. So please, I would love feedback on it. This is the first time I’ve ever done a mystery/horror story so feedback is very much welcomed. For now, enjoy.

Prompt: Sloth

Word count: 1,087ish (Forgot the number. I just know its over 700)

Chapter one: Sloth

More then ever Kagome was glad that she had a very good hold on her stomach. Otherwise she would be in the hall with the other officer showing what she ate that morning to the rest of the force. Though the smell didn’t help much either.

“Detective Higurashi, it’s good to see you.” Kagome turned, the cloth she held up to her mouth still in place as she spotted a tall raven haired man. She took note of the tattoo of a four pointed star on his forehead as his long braid that reached down to his waistline.  She arched an eyebrow at the stranger, not quite sure if she knew him.

The man chuckled as he held out his hand. “Sorry. Detective Bankotsu Shin. We went to the same academy together. I was always second to you in class.”

Kagome shook his hand and gave a small nod. “I recognize the name, not the face.” She told him. “But I don’t believe that right now is a good time to catch up on old times.”

He gave another small chuckle. “This is true. Have you seen the body yet?”

Kagome sighed. She had heard it was pretty bad, but she hadn’t seen it herself. “I was about to actually.” She walked down the messy hall of the apartment to stop at the taped off area. With another sigh she walked into the room and once more thanked the kami’s of her strong stomach. They always hated it when you threw up on evidence.

The room wasn’t too big. A bed, a nightstand with a lamp, a dresser with a TV on it. Of course, what made the room different was the fact there was a dead body on the bed. His arms and legs tied to a spread eagle position. His eyes were rolled up in the back of his head while his mouth was open as if he was screaming.

“The victim is Mushin Hoshi, age forty two.” Another man said, holding a clipboard. “Time of death is unknown for now, body was found only an hour ago when the landlord came in demanding to know where the smell was coming from. Guess he found it.”

Kagome rolled her eyes. “Go on Heiten.”

“Just stating how it is Higurashi.” He cleared his throat and continued. “Cause of death is unknown. What we do know is that all his fingers and toes are broken and so are both his legs. We believe it must have been starvation counting that it seems like he ate his own tongue.”

“So what kind of sicko would do something like this?” Bankotsu asked, looking at the body.

Kagome looked at it as well. “That is a good question. The smell seems almost as if he’s been dead for months. It could also be the fact that he’s covered in his own wastes. The body can survive without food for a good month. But they can’t live without water for no more then a week. A week in a half if their strong.”

“There’s more Kagome.” Heiten pointed out.

Kagome arched an eyebrow at him. “What do you mean?”

Heiten pointed up at the ceiling.

Slowly brown eyes moved from the body, looking at the walls till finally she set eyes on the ceiling where words were written in chalky brown. Dried blood.

FOREVER SLEEP ON YOUR SIN IN DEATH

Kagome took a deep breath and closed her eyes. “Boys, we’re dealing with a psychopath. The most dangerous kind ever senses the Killing Perfection put a name to it.”

The raven haired girl sighed as she fell into her desk. In all her training in the academy and only a year in the force couldn’t prepare her for something like this. Granted she was glad that she wasn’t around when Sesshomaru Taisho was at large, but she also prayed that she wouldn’t have something like this either. Rapists were easily found. Murderers always came to the scene of the crime if they waited long enough. Kidnapers slipped up all the time. Granted she had never had a case of murder of kidnapping, but still. This was something who was a mastermind. Something told her that this was the beginning of something disastrous. It had only been a week and already they found nothing. Not a finger print, not a sample of hair. It was as if Mushin tied himself up and did everything himself.

“You’re going to work yourself to death you know.” Bankotsu said as he sat down in the chair across her desk. He smiled and handed her a cup of coffee.

“That’s what my mother said to me a long time ago.” Kagome muttered, sipping the coffee. “Thanks.”

He gave her a nod and leaned back on his chair. “We got a testimony from his son Miroku. He checks clean though as a suspect. He says that he lost contact with his father half a year ago. Claims that Mushin was always known to hole himself up in his house and just drink and do nothing unless if he was forced to. Miroku even stated that he was a very lazy kind of guy. Would get out of doing anything if he could just drink and stay at home. That’s why he was so fat. But he had no enemies to speak of.”

The woman gave a small nod as she looked at the papers. “I see. So this guy who was this large, lazy man was just killed? But for what reason?” Chocolate brown eyes looked though papers till she reread the saying once more. Instantly her eyes widened as she placed the coffee back on the table.

“Forever sleep on your sin in death…” Kagome said aloud, understanding the words behind it. “Oh kami save us.” She fell back into her chair, her arm resting on her forehead.

Bankotsu looked at her confused for a moment. “Care to share with the rest of the class Higurashi?”

“I pray to the Kami’s that I’m wrong, but he’s speaking of a sin. There are seven sins in all. Our killer killed Mushin because the man was lazy. Because the man is representing the sin of Sloth. ‘Forever sleep on your sin in death’. Shin, if I’m right then that means that our killer isn’t done. He’s going to strike again. And if we don’t catch him soon, six more people are going to die.”
