Sweet Treats
Kagome looked at the oven. She hadn’t really seen one during her travels. Most were too poor to have a proper oven. But since she was told to make herself at home, she was going to take advantage of the oven. There was one thing she missed more than anything. Cake. She loved cake. It was her favourite dessert. Besides she was sure Rin would like cake as well as Shippo. Kagome wasn’t so sure about Sesshomaru, but she would make the best of her kidnapping and live a life that few lived in the era she now lived in.
Not worried in the least, since Sesshomaru had told all of his servants to make the miko happy, Kagome began asking for various supplies. Ever since she was little she had been taught how to bake and nothing was ever store bought. So from memory she began to create her masterpiece.
It took half a dozen times to get the process down, because of the oven, or the pans she used, or rather the bowls. Then there were things that were not available during the era that she was use to baking with. However, the cook that watched her carefully, offering a tip here and there when she made a mistake.
When the sun was ready to sink below the horizon, Kagome emerged from the kitchen the victor. She asked for Rin and Shippo to be called to the dining room. Sesshomaru picked up on the ruckus and chose to make an appearance just before Kagome placed the large three layer cake upon the table.
Happy at the creation covered in a warm butter cream sauce and topped with berries, Kagome told everyone to dig in. Pointing out that there was enough even for the servants to try as well. The inu watched as the woman acted like a young child, enjoying the small accomplishment. It only then dawn upon him that he was unsure why the woman was celebrating anything in the first place. He had taken her from her pack, except the kitsune who had clung to her tightly as he kidnapped her. Then he explained she would remain under his care. He didn’t tell the woman why, she was a woman after all and there was no reason for a woman to know anything.
But she acted like nothing happened. In fact, she was the one who offered him a plate with her masterpiece upon it. He took the offering, sniffed it from a distance, and turned around to head back to his study. It would be away from public eyes that he would decide if he would eat the cake or not.
