Birthday

Kagome gazed out of her window at the well house with a slightly depressed expression.  She was home for good now.  The final battle had occurred a year ago today.  This thought caused tears to course down her cheeks as it also reminded her of the fact that she would never see her friends again.

The moment the shikon had been put back together a light had wrapped its way around her and caused her to disappear from the feudal era and appear back in hers.  At first she had been ecstatic about being home until she realized what it meant for the shikon to pull her back to her time.  She could never return.  She hated that fact with a passion she had never felt before.

The presents she had received only left a stale taste in her mouth as she remembered what had occurred on her last birthday, the final battle to complete the shikon.  She had been unable to open them and had pleaded with her family to understand her feelings on this matter.

She had lost everything on this day a year ago.  Two brothers, a sister, a son, a daughter, and a mate-to-be; she had lost it all and she knew she would never get them back as it is impossible for them to have survived nearly five hundred years just so that they could stand next to her once more.

Her family she new couldn't understand why see couldn't just couldn't seem to move on from the past.  She could never bring herself to tell them what had occurred.  She so dearly wished that she could have born a pup for her mate-to-be for a reminder for herself.

But she and her mate-to-be had never been that intimate.  They had both thought that they would have time for that later, after the final battle, but that later had never come.  Now she could only hope and pray that he never forgot her even if he had move on to another who could give him what she could not, an heir.

A sudden commotion near the shrines steps drew her attention away from her thoughts and she looked over only to be unable to see what was going on.  Rising to her feet she rushed out of the door and raced to the steps only to freeze when she gazed upon the commotion makers. "Inuyasha?" she whispered.

The one she thought was Inuyasha looked up and smiled, "Kagome long time no see!" his words were loud and boisterous.  A word she never could have applied to him when she traveled with him in the past.  HE had always seemed so sour during their travels that to hear him speak as he did was strange.

"Indeed Inuyasha.  You've changed more then I could have ever imagined."  Kagome's smile was soft as she walked down the stairs as she pulled her robe tighter to ward off the nights chill.  Glancing at the people with him a smile spread across her face, "Is this your family Inuyasha?" there were two little boys with miniscule dog ears and one little girl being held by the female that was obviously her mother.

"Yup this is Seiara my mate; my sons are Totosai and Myouga.  My little girl is named for Sango."  Inuyasha's expression fell slightly as he spoke the last name.

"Did she live a good life Inu?  Did they all?"

"Yes."

"Is Sesshou?" Kagome choked on the name unable to bare to ask if he had died since she last saw him.

"He is alive."  Inuyasha replied slowly not sure on how to break the news that he knew would crush her heart.

Seiara noticing his difficulty decided to do it for him, "He has mated to a full blooded Inu female."  She stepped forward as the small fragile seeming miko collapsed to her knees at her words.  "I am sorry to be the one to tell you despite never having met you before today."

Totosai glanced at the box in his hands and spoke, "I guess this would be a good time to suggest we eat some cake and ice cream then?"

Kagome choked on a laugh at the irony, "Yeah I suppose it would be seeing as it is comfort food for most females."

(OoOoO)

AN:  Sad I know but well I didn't want it to have a happy ending for some reason.  Happy Birthday Nobody.
