........

Kagome woke with a start, feeling the sudden vibrations next to her body. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she tried to focus them on the white mass next to her. For a moment she couldn't remember what was going on, or where she was, until a throaty growl reached her ears.

As if the deep rumble coming from his throat had triggered something within her, memories of the previous day invaded her thoughts-creating sense of all the chaos invading her mind at the moment. She rose from her sleeping bag and onto her knees. In front of her, Sesshomaru still laid on his belly, staring at her. She reached for the enormous dog towering over her and in an instant, the canine lowered its massive head, his nose almost the size of her. Kagome was surprised at his patience as he allowed her fingers to slide through the thick silky fur on his muzzle.

Kagome smiled to herself at how docile the youkai was acting, she couldn't even believe it was Sesshomaru underneath it all. The dog lifted its head and took a step closer to Kagome, bending low to sniff her.

Confusion engulfed her as Sesshomaru sniffed at her hair, and then was quickly replace by embarrassment when his long muzzle came lower and sniffed her derrière. Kagome gasped and shot up to her feet, slapping the giant black button nose on the way.

"What are you doing?" she choked out, blushing a beet red. She was surprised when the canine turned on her. Sesshomaru licked his lips with a quick flick of his pink tongue as he twitched his nose. His chest rumbled with the menacing growl as his eyes threatened to bleed red.

Apprehension bubbled up inside Kagome as she took a step back and tripped over her own sleeping bag.

OoO

Inuyasha jumped to his feet the moment the scent hit his nose. Pheromones. The scent was heavy in the air as it washed over him. The sudden intake had him dizzy and almost falling over the tree he was curled on. The dog within him reacted promptly, bringing out the aggressive and territorial side in him; primal instinct demanding him fight for his bitch.

Shaking his head, Inuyasha jumped down the branch and turned towards where the scent was coming from. He stopped short, realizing what was happening. He shut his mouth tight and breathed heavily through flared nostrils. The sudden scent of the pheromones in the air had triggered his instincts without thought, and now his mind registered he reality of the events. He'd reacted like a dog threatened by another dog before a bitch in heat. But Kagome was not in heat-and she was not Inu. But obviously, his stupid royal pain in the ass of a brother didn't realize that. Or at least his puppy form didn't. Stupid dog!

Inuyasha cursed, he'd seen the moment Sesshomaru had tried and stake a claimed on Kagome-which she'd answered by slapping his hand away. Inwardly cringing at what was to happen next, Inuyasha took a step towards them. He didn't understand what was happening, but it was obvious his half brother intended to mate his Kagome. He was purposely releasing pheromones into the air, engulfing Kagome to push her into a forced heat. Seducing her. Inuyasha growled inwardly, too bad for him she wasn't Inu.

Inuyasha lifted his hand and rested it on Tetsaiga's hilt when Sesshomaru took a menacing step towards Kagome. In Inu ways, the male often took the female by force if the female rejected the male. He recognized Sesshomaru's warning immediately for what it was. Sesshomaru had asked Kagome's permission, she'd refused-albeit unknowingly, and now he intended to take her by force. The bastard.

"Kagome"

Kagome turned to the voice behind her and found Inuyasha standing on the other side of the ashes left by their bonfire. His eyes were not on her though, but on the inuyoukai in front of her. Inuyasha's eyes were shadowed by an unreadable expression, one Kagome had rarely seen unless deep in battle.

The deep guttural snarl reverberating through Sesshomaru's chest in anger and hostility had Kagome's eyes flashing to him, and found him staring at her, his upper lip curled back in an ugly snarl. His eyes bled a darker crimson as he switched his eyes to follow Inuyasha's movements carefully.

"Inuyasha, what's going on?" Kagome asked out of breath. She pushed one of the sleeping bag's flap from her foot slowly and hauled herself to her feet. She kept her eyes on the mammoth of a dog before her, wary. She could almost taste the agitation withing the animal and she wondered what was causing it. Had it been her? Had her flicking his nose away truly caused him to be so angry and agitated? She heard Inuyasha move and saw him standing not far from her from the corner of her eyes. She heard the rustling of fabric and knew her other friends would soon join her.

Sesshomaru took a threateningly step forward, his great paw digging deep into the earth. The hairs on his back stood as he snarled viciously, pearly white fangs glistening. He turned on Inuyasha, as if warning him.

Inuyasha stood still, willing himself not to turn to Kagome. If he did-it could be their undoing. He wanted to be near her though, to reassure her and wipe the fear away from her wide eyes. But he couldn't, it he did, his brother would attack.

"He thinks you've rejected him," Inuyasha stated, narrowed golden eyes on his brother. His jaw clenched at the possessive aura around the youkai. Inuyasha had tolerated letting the inu youkai spent the night with them, but he wouldn't tolerate his brother to threaten his pack.

"What do you mean?" Kagome stuttered.

"It's primal instinct Kagome," Inuyasha sighed, exasperated. "It's how dog's identify each other-in Sesshomaru's case, he was-in a way, asking permission..." Inuyasha let his words hang between them, hoping she'd understand.

"Permission for what?" Kagome asked, removing her eyes from Sesshomaru and turning them on Inuyasha. Something in the pit of her stomach warned her about asking-but she needed to know. She was curious by nature-and stubborn from birth.

"Kagome, I don't know what the hell's happening, but he wants to mate with you," Inuyasha gritted the last out. Clenching his jaw shut, he prayed Kagome wouldn't ask him any more questions. Both Miroku and Sango now stood on the other side of the dead bonfire, listening intently. The only reaction from them was the occasional gasp of Sango's eyes widening. Various times Inuyasha caught Miroku holding Sango back by the arm and shaking his head.

"What?!" Kagome stuttered, perplexed. Why on earth would he want to do that? "Inuyasha, you have to give me some answers, please be clear. Why on earth would he want to do that?" Kagome asked, rubbing her temple. She could feel the beginning of a terrible migraine coming on. She could tell that Inuyasha was clearly keeping some things from her...if the tightness of his jaw and the ticking of the muscle there was anything to go by.

Inuyasha groaned, not sure what to say or do. He'd usually let time do it's work and came up with things as he went. He was never the one to think and act-he was more of a action now and then think. "Kagome...damn it-" Inuyasha was at a loss for words. How to tell his best friend that the youkai before her wanted to screw her brainless and if she refused-he'd do it anyways? The choice was taken from him when in a flash of silver and dust Sesshomaru launched forwards and shot past him, Kagome held gently in his mouth.

Inuyasha cursed once again, hastily shouting orders to pack up quickly and follow him as he shot after his royal pain in the ass and his miko. Deep inside, fear welled up at what his crazed half brother could do to Kagome. She was his dearest friend, the least he wanted was for Sesshomaru to force her to do something and end up extinguishing her light forever.

OoO

Sesshomaru eased Kagome gently to the ground, dropping her into one of his favorite clearings. Ironically, in Inuyasha's forest. After he'd run past his half brother's pack, he'd circled the forest and made sure to send them in a false lead. He knew the hanyou wouldn't think to look in the forest the bore his very name.

Falling to the soft soil, Kagome flipped to sit on her bottom and pushed away from the enormous dog. Shakily raising to her feet, she raised her hands before her in a sign of peace, "Sesshomaru, please, you don't want to do this..." she trailed off when the air around her crackled with the charge of electricity. The wind picked up and the soil and leaves on the ground swirled around the clearing. A soft luminescent light circled Sesshomaru's canine body along with a swirl of wind

Kagome had to lift one arm to protect her eyes from the flying dust. Just as fast as it had begun, it ended. Kagome let her arm drop slowly, fully expecting to see the enormous white dog before her. What she hadn't expected was a fully transformed humanoid Sesshomaru standing across from her.

Kagome gulped as she took in the feral look in his eyes, slowly tainting pink. His face, usually so stoic and void of emotions, not contorted into one of anger and viciousness. His lips curled in a harsh snarl, and is fangs glistened with the poison coating them. Of three things she was sure, one even from where she stood she could see the hard protruding evidence of his arousal, and two he still believed she'd rejected him, and three....he was not happy...
