Last time on Learn to Love Again
“No, no, I-I… need to stay with Sesshomaru.” Kagome jerking around and flipping out, then she heard something that froze her to her core, her blood was like ice, and she stopped struggling again Sango.
“Time of death, 2:03 am.” a paramedic covering Sesshomaru’s body up with a sheet. Sango’s hands loosened around Kagome, she ran back over to Sesshomaru’s body and fell to her knees. She couldn’t help but start hitting his body with her fists.
“You c-can’t l-leave me, not like t-this. Sesshomaru, get up, we need you, I-I n-need you. Oh god Sesshomaru!?!” Kagome hysterically crying as she put her hands over her nose and mouth and cried what was left of her heart out. A paramedic grabbed her and pulled her away from Sesshomaru’s body as the rest of the team transported his body to the ambulance.
The paramedic who held Kagome back gave her a syringe full of a sedative that rendered her unconscious, it would help her sleep, and it wouldn’t hurt her at all. Miroku brought their car around and carefully took her from the paramedic and placed her in the back of the car. Shippo sat up front with Sango as they went back to the hotel as the snow started to fall heavier.
Kagome started to come around and when her eyes adjusted, she found herself in her room at the hotel with Shippo and Serge in her bed. Sango was asleep beside her, Miroku was in the chair by her bed asleep. He started coming around,
“Miroku, what happened.” Kagome rubbing her face.
“You’re awake. How are you…” Miroku being cut off,
“Miroku, just tell me what happened.” Kagome hissed out,
“He’s gone Kagome.” Sango whispered, Kagome turned her head to look at her,
“What?” Kagome asked as she narrowed her eyes,
“Sesshomaru, he didn’t…” Sango being interrupted, before Sango knew was going on she found her cheek stinging.
“No, he isn’t gone, he can’t be.” Kagome hissed out, she found something heavy in her lap, she looked down to see Shippo looking up at her with tears his eyes,
“Sesshomaru isn’t coming back.” Shippo burying his face into her stomach. Her arms went around the kit instinctively, a tear slipped free as she froze, Sango couldn’t even tell if she was breathing.
“Please, say something Kagome.” Sango’s eyes watering, she pulled Shippo away from her and got out of the bed.
“You…all of you…just…you need to stay away from me.” Kagome starting to shake again as she stuttered.
“Wait, Kagome…we just got you back. Why would you say something like that?” Sango confused. Kagome ran her hands through her hair and turned to face them.
“Don’t you see Sesshomaru was trying to help me and Inuyasha killed him! Ronin was going to…to marry me and he also got killed. I am cursed Sango.” Kagome having no emotion in her voice and an emotionless look on her face.
“Kagome, you are not cursed. Inuyasha killed Sesshomaru, and bad people killed Ronin, it has nothing to do with you.” Sango seriously.
“Sango, people keep dying around me. I am not going home, and you can forget about me going back and burying another loved one. I can’t do it. I am staying in Europe. Kagome seriously.
“You can’t do that, what about your job at the paper? The cancelling of your wedding, and Shippo? He needs a stable place to live.” Sango trying to walk toward her.
“I have money, I’ll get an apartment here.” Kagome explained as she took a step back from her.
“Kagome be reasonable, you don’t speak the language here, and Shippo needs a concealment. He needs you to be a good mother, and a strong one.” Sango seriously.
“I am not his mother Sango, I could never replace his parents, and I wouldn’t dream of it. I do care for him, and I will protect him, alone!” Kagome shouted as she was getting pissed off.
“Crying is a waste of time, it won’t bring any of them back. I am sorry but this is my decision.” Kagome coldly stated.
“Inupapa could help you raise him. You wouldn’t be alone, you would have us, your mother, Inupapa…” Sango being interrupted,
“And all the haunting memories as well. I need this right now Sango. I need to figure out what I do next, where I go next. I need to do it by myself.” Kagome wiping away a few tears that had slipped by. Sango nodded as she stepped back, Kagome walked into the bathroom and shut the door. Soon enough the shower turned on, Miroku came over and gently started rubbing Sango’s arms.
“Could he not have waited before doing this? We have lost her Miroku.” Sango whispered, Miroku brought her out into the living room,
“I think Sesshomaru had an idea that she would be like this that’s why he told me ahead of time, its why he didn’t tell her. He needs to sell it and Kagome is his best option. He needed the public eye to see it was for real.” Shippo whispered.
“So how, when do we tell her?” Sango asked,
“He will her when its time. Surely, he won’t make her suffer like this for much longer.” Miroku rubbing her arms.
Meanwhile, as Sesshomaru laid there ‘dying’, he could hear Kagome getting hysterical. He had heard the moment her heart had shattered in her chest. He thought this had to have been the most heartless thing he had ever done. He hadn’t expected Kagome to take it all so hard. The way her tears flooded his face and how she held him and tried to make him as comfortable as she could, she had even tried to heal him with her reiki.
She had shaken so hard, and then it was like a switch was flipped, all that pain had turned to pure rage and her powers growing so fast he was actually choking from the intensity of them. He was an evil bastard who had no caring heart, but he knew Kagome wouldn’t be able to act the part if he told her why it had to be done.
Sesshomaru needed to die for several reasons. Mainly to get a new longer life, he would be able to change his life from a 26-year-old to a 21 year old, he would look like a younger human man and he would be a cousin to Sesshomaru and work in his father’s business. There was no way Kagome would understand any of it, not with having to bury Ronin just a few days ago.
Meanwhile Sango didn’t want to leave Shippo and Kagome by themselves in Europe and especially not in the state Kagome was currently in. The shower cut off, Sango and Miroku quickly changed the subject before she could overhear. Kagome went into her room and flipped through her clothes, grabbing some clothes and her phone and went back to the bathroom, she called Inupapa.
“Hey, its Kagome, I know you have a lot going on right now but can you have a concealment made for a fox kit?” Kagome’s voice shaking and cracking.
“Yeah, how are you holding up?” Inupapa asked,
“I’m not. What do I need to send for the concealment?” Kagome asked,
“Aren’t you coming home?” Inupapa asked.
“No, I can’t, not now.” Kagome sniffled,
“Aren’t you coming back for the funeral?” Inupapa asked.
“I…I can’t bury another loved one.” Kagome hanging up, she placed the phone on the sink counter as she leaned against the counter on her hands. She couldn’t even bear to look in the mirror at herself.
“Why me? I am not stronger for it so why keep making me endure so much pain?” Kagome whispered. Slowly she took a deep breath and put her clothes on. When she finally came out of the bathroom Sango had a newspaper in her hand.
“How are you even going to look for a place? Its all in French.” Sango explained,
“I will find someone who speaks Japanese and can read French.” Kagome throwing her hands up.
“Well, we’ll help for a few days but then we need to get back.” Sango having red blotchy eyes, only because she had been rubbing them to portray, she had been crying.
“Thanks Sango. You think Miroku could baby sit Serge and Shippo for us?” Kagome asked,
“I wanted to help pick out our place though.” Shippo reminding her.
“I know I told you that you could help Shippo, but you don’t have a concealment yet. I’ll take photos of each one and then I’ll bring them back and then we will go through them together and pick the place, how’s that?” Kagome asked,
“Okay, I guess.” Shippo sadly.
“When we do move back to Japan or the surrounding area we will look together. Inupapa is going to mail us your concealment charm whenever he gets back to me about the things we need for it.” Kagome explained. Her phone alerted her to a text message,
“Okay, he needs some of your blood to make it work.” Kagome stated.
“How are we going to do that?” Shippo asked,
“We will buy a vile and…” Kagome being interrupted,
“Why don’t you just come home, get Shippo all fixed up and then you could come back.” Sango explained. Kagome looked at Shippo,
“Alright, but I am not going to the funeral, I am not going to see Inupapa, and I am not getting on that damn plane. I need time to myself Sango.” Kagome hisses out. Sango held up her hands,
“Alright, you rent a car, and whatever else you need to get back. We will give you time and space.” Sango seriously.
“And I am only coming back to get Shippo’s papers and concealment in order and then I am returning here. I deserve some peace of mind and doing my photography is just that.” Kagome getting upset.
“Okay. Just one thing, I want you to call me, just to talk about everything you did and saw each week.” Sango explained. Kagome glared at her,
“I want my best friend back to do girl things, you are my maid of honor.” Sango trying to make her smile. Kagome frowned and was close to blowing a fuse,
“No, I can’t.” Kagome gritted out as she foot her foot down, she left no room for discussion.
“Will you at least think about it? You are my best friend Kagome. You were like my sister back in the day. I tried to be there for you when you needed me, but you wouldn’t let me be. I need you, my best friend, my sis, at my wedding. I wont settle for anyone else.” Sango tearing up. Kagome closed her eyes and bit her lip,
“Do you have any idea what its like to meet someone who had a heart of gold? He cared more for others than himself and fall in love with him and have him just get ripped away and take your own heart with him to the grave? It killed me, it made my blood run cold to have to bury him! This weekend, today, was our day we were supposed to be married today!” Kagome screamed out, her veins in her neck and forehead popping out.
“And then has someone else, another male who has a hard time expressing himself but clearly cares, more than a human could imagine, about you, who tried to protect you from every bad thing that life throws at you just get killed, and die in your own arms? How, why could you possibly think I could even attend the most happiest day of any girl’s life when my day, my day is here and my husband to be is already in the ground and a good friend will be in the ground as well in a few more days?” Kagome screamed at her, a single tear rolling down her cheek.
Sango knew Kagome needed to let it out, everything that she had held inside, Kagome fell to her knees, crying into her hands but the tears refused to fall anymore, she had already cried them all out. Sango got down on the floor with Kagome and said nothing but held her and rubbed her back.
“Let it out.” Sango crying herself,
“I am sorry Sango. I am, and I am happy you and Miroku are getting married. I just, I can’t witness it because my day will never come.” Kagome cried, Sango petted Kagome’s hair,
“Ronin isn’t the only guy out there for you, you’ll find…” Sango being interrupted,
“No, I am done. I am done trying.” Kagome clearly stated.
“Honey, listen to me…” Sango being interrupted, Kagome shoved her off,
“Damn it Sango! Sesshomaru liked me, hell, it even felt like he may have loved me, and he was just killed right in front of me. This is the complete definition of insanity!” Kagome screaming out in frustration. Her reiki was sparking off of her, threatening to unleash its fury.
“I’m here Kags.” Sango trying to hug her,
“Just go Sango. Escape with your life before I bring death upon you as well.” Kagome pushing her away.
“At least take a driver with you to the airport.” Sango explained, Kagome nodded as she started to pack her things.
“I need you to take Shippo’s father with you since you guys have that private jet.” Kagome stated,
“Alright.” Sango nodded, Kagome carefully handed the bag that held Shippo’s father in it to Sango and she left. Kagome sat down and cried into her hands for a few minutes, Shippo started patting her shoulder,
“I can’t be sitting here and doing this, we have to get you home and get a concealment for you.” Kagome blubbered.
“Just take your time Kagome.” Shippo resting a paw on her shoulder, she scrubbed her face free of tears and snot,
“Crying has never done anyone any good, come on, let’s go get things done.” Kagome trying to put on a brave face. She gathered her things and the little bit that they had bought Shippo and called for a cab.
“So, how exactly are we doing this?” Shippo asked,
“I think we are going to start out on the train and go from there.” Kagome stated.
“Hm.” Shippo concealing himself as a little boy and taking Kagome’s hand as they went down to let Serge potty before they left.
