The streetlights shown on the streets of Toyoko, Japan in a mirrored sheen from the rain that poured in sheets. Black umbrellas floated on the sidewalks, the people underneath them living their everyday lives. No one bothered to look up in this kind of bad weather, that was why it was the perfect night to get away with murder.
If someone bothered to look up more than likely they wouldn’t be able to make out the face of the soon to be killer. The lone figure stood on top of a tall building, the wind slightly blowing the tail of their coat. Someone had hired an assassin to take out a person who, the figure didn’t know. All this mercenary needed was a face, then they would tail the one who needed taken out, learn their routine and pick a good time to take them out. Tonight, was the perfect night. One bullet in the chamber was all they needed, with practice ease they set up their sniper rifle, breathing easy they took their aim and gently pulled the trigger. With the city below and the noise of traffic and rain no one was the wiser that a gun had gone off.
The figure had been there for a split second, now they were gone, leaving no trace of them behind. Easy money, and since they were a mercenary in this day and time, they knew how to leave no trace. No offshore bank accounts to trace, collecting every single brass, and scratching up the gun barrel so no one would be able to match it to anyone, and many more tricks they knew to use.
“Welcome, what could I get for you today?” a petite, long shiny black haired and innocent looking girl of 20 years old asked the customer of the café, in the background the TV was announcing another murder of a big-time rich business guy that had made his money by shorting the stocks on the side. No one was going to miss someone like him, most business guys were corrupted by greed, they couldn’t get enough.
The petite innocent girl of 20 years old was throwing her hair up because it was getting hot, she quickly had made a customer their coffee and grabbed them a fresh muffin and took the coffee and muffin over to the customer.
“My name is Kagome, if you need anything else just let me know.” Kagome sang as she walked away, smiling. Yes, no one would miss that fat nasty man, hell, some would probably praise the one who had took the guy out.
“It’s a shame huh Kags? I guess he cheated the wrong person.” one of her co-workers asked,
“Hm, you know there is such a thing as karma, right?” Kagome playing along.
“You believe in that stuff?” her co-worker asked.
“You do know I grew up on a shrine, right? Why wouldn’t I believe in it? I would like to think that guys who do such things for pure greed get what is coming to them. I wish I could actually see them get what is coming to them.” Kagome shrugged.
“Oh, I know right? Like bullies in school.” Her co-worker trying to go into a whole conversation about it. The bell jingled above the door, a head of short platinum blond hair, black trench coat and a suit jacket underneath with black v-neck shirt and black shiny boots was walking in, thankfully disrupting the conversation that Kagome didn’t plan on listening to anyway.
“Good morning Mr. Taisho, would you like your usual this morning or would you like to try a muffin with your coffee?” Kagome asked, with her usual bright cheery outlook.
“Just the usual.” the detective replied in his cold stone tone.
“Coming right up, would that be for here or to go?” Kagome asked,
“For here.” the detective replied, Kagome turned and started fixing his black caffeinated coffee, he grabbed a couple of napkins just in case there were any people who wanted to accidentally spill things on him in passing. It had been that kind of day already. Crying babies, dog shit that had not been picked up in public, slow people everywhere. He walked over to his usual table to wait for his coffee, Kagome quickly walked over with his coffee, she sat it down on top of a napkin she had carried over with the coffee.
“Has it been that eventful for you this morning?” Kagome asked, the detective just stared at her,
“I see you have extra napkins as if you are anticipating on someone spilling something on you.” Kagome giggled a little.
“Always try to anticipate, no one can predict the future.” the detective mumbled,
“So, a typical Monday morning for you. If you need anything at all detective just let me know.” Kagome giving him a kind smile and walking back to the counter. She decided to be nice and grabbed a wheat bran muffin with a paper to keep it from touching it with her fingers and put it in a bag to go and took it over to the detective, he raised a brow.
“Maybe your day will get better from this point on. It’s my treat detective.” Kagome nodded her head and went back to the front.
“Kiss ass.” her co-worker hissed,
“Cops have enough on their plate every day, why not show them some appreciation?” Kagome asked. Her male co-worker gave her a raised brow,
“You only did that cause he is hot.” the guy whispered. Kagome finally admitted,
“Really though, I don’t think anyone would have a chance with someone like that. That’s like hitting the lottery, but I am not dead yet, and I’m single so what’s wrong with being nice? I can look all I want, I just prefer not to throw myself at guys that look like that. I’m sure there are a million of girls that already do so on a daily basis.” Kagome shrugged,
“Well, that and your kind of schedule doesn’t really leave much time for a boyfriend huh?” her coworker asked,
“Hm, yeah, it must be nice to be able to have just one job and not have to worry about having to pay student loans.” Kagome sighed, her alarm on her phone was going off, alerting her to the time of ten a.m.
“Shit, I gotta run. The other job is calling.” Kagome throwing her apron off and grabbing her messenger bag, throwing it over a shoulder and grabbing a tall to-go cup in her hand and jogging past the detective and leaving his to-go coffee as she ran out the door. The smell of cherry blossoms in spring rain wafted up his nose, leaving him content and well satisfied, even if he had heard them talking about how eye catching he was.
