Scream (Drabble) by elle6778
Numb with shock, she fell to her knees on the cold, hard ground, failing to register the sting of sharp rocks penetrating her flesh.
He was strong, impenetrable. Like an unbreakable wall of strength that awed and intimidated everyone who came into contact with him. So regal, so perfect. It had seemed that nothing would ever touch him.
The tears came first, streaking down her pale cheeks. Then the rain joined in, falling in fat unrelenting droplets, washing away her burning tears. Washing away the illusion. Her heart constricted at the thought.
Small fingers fisting around wet white silk, Kagome raised her face to the sky, her lips parted in a silent scream. It did not matter if there was no sound, for there was no one there to hear her.
It was all an illusion.
Her face contorted as a whimper escaped her throat, threatening to choke her as her body trembled uncontrollably.
His immortality was simply a beautiful illusion.
Pressure built in her chest until she could no longer restrain it. And then the screams broke out, echoing against the valley, bouncing back and then joining the cracking sound of the thunder overhead as anguish pierced through her very being.
She screamed until she could scream no more.
And then she slumped against the unmoving body before her.
The illusion of Sesshoumaru's immortality had been broken.
And along with it, her illusions of a life together with him.
