Magpie

The sound of crashing waves and distant seagulls soothed Kagome as she calmly lounged in the sand, her eyes closed beneath her trendy, feminine sunglasses as she dozed.

“Shall I set up the tent for us, before you burn, darling?” Sesshomaru asked next to her, his question more than a little pointed.  She felt him turn over, placing his hand on her bare stomach, clawed fingers lightly scratching against her.  Gooseflesh prickled appeared, making her shiver.  “We could have some privacy from these onlookers…”  He trailed off thoughtfully.

Kagome smiled, not opening her eyes.  There were many people at the beach today, and both she and Sesshomaru tended to attract attention.  Sesshomaru with his long white hair, Kagome with her flamboyant swimsuits (and today’s was a bright cerulean blue number that was technically one piece, but had many cutouts that slashed up her waist and just under her breasts.  It was… quite the eye-catching suit to say the least).

And of course, this wasn’t a question of jealousy or fidelity (Sesshomaru actually liked showing her off in large crowds).  It was just the first time they’d been together since his extended business trip.  He’d been gone for nearly a month, the longest they’d been apart since they’d been together (which was saying something, considering they’d been mates for centuries now).  They’d managed their stability with late night phone calls and salacious texting.

So when Kagome heard the huskiness in his tone, she turned her head on the towel and lifted her sunglasses, “Something on your mind, milord?”

His gorgeous citrine eyes stared down at her, “Oh, many, many things…”  Clawed fingers ran down the planes of her stomach, over her navel, “Things we spoke about over the phone…”

“You’ll have to remind me,” Kagome said with a cheeky smile.  “There were so many things we talked about.”

“Hn,” he murmured, “with any luck, we’ll be able to do them all on this beach.”

She grinned, “We could get arrested.”

“Less likely if we set up the tent.”

“True,” Kagome agreed.  “But perhaps in a few minutes?  You know how I love to sit in the sun.”

“I do,” Sesshomaru told her.  He lifted an eyebrow, “You’ll need more sunscreen.”

“Yes, you did say you were worried about me burning.”

“I am your beloved mate and husband,” he said dramatically.  “It is my duty to protect you from the terrors of sun damage.”

Kagome played along, making a show of her gratitude, rubbing her hand up his thigh, “Then I believe you should do your duty, milord.”  Sesshomaru smiled warmly and reached for Kagome’s sunscreen.  “Where on my body do you think I’m most susceptible to these dangerous sun rays, milord?”

“Let us start with your back, my love,” he answered, giving her a little ‘turn over’ motion with his hand.

Kagome turned over gladly, sighing at the feel of her beloved’s hands and the tickle of his long hair brushing her skin, “I’m glad you’re home.”

“Hn, me too.”
