*~*~*~*~*

A/N: This story is written in a series of drabble chapters, but each chapter is a part of a whole and not an individual story like drabbles most often are. My challenge to new readers is to give it the first 20 chapters before deciding whether or not its your cup of tea - roughly the length of a one-shot. A few warnings: major character deaths, frequent discussion of death and heartache, and there will be NSFW chapters (though they are noted). Please heed any warnings that may pop up if you have personal sensibilities to attend to.

The story diverges from the typical canon expression (as most Sess/Kag does) and as well assumes that defeating Naraku took closer to five years. Thank you for checking out this story. It has been a labor of love. I hope that you enjoy!

Their deaths carried on roiling clouds of smoke and stung her nostrils.

He gave her no time. She was suddenly in strong, unforgiving arms, racing through the decaying landscape as Naraku’s swan song of miasma exploded and suffocated everything and everyone in it.

Get her to the well.

It was Inuyasha’s last request. She could see it in his eyes at that moment. He wanted her to live—needed her to live—but he would fail in making sure she did. So, he asked his brother to save her.

Kagome wished that he had not and let the tears fall.
