He stopped at the florist on the way to her apartment. He needed something to show her the words that he wanted to say but never could get out.
The florist, having seen the look of distress on the 20-something business man, asked what he was looking for.
"I need something.... something special"
"Is it a special occasion?"
"No, I just want..." he trailed off, stopping his thoughts and giving her a pleading look.
"I understand" the florist said "Did you know that flowers and their colors have meaning?"
"Really? I was unaware of that" he considered what he needs to say to her, and wonders if the flowers really have that ability.
The florist proceeded to show him all the different flowers, all the different colors, and provided him the meanings for them all.
He picked out several based on the information the florist provided. He had them wrapped up in green paper, in water tubes to stay fresh; he wasn't going to far after all. He was amazed on how perfect all those random flowers and colors looked together. Perfect; just like her.
The short drive to her apartment went smoothly. He was happy with his choice of flowers. Maybe now he could tell her, maybe now it was time.
He could smell the meal that she was preparing standing in the hallway in front of her door. She was such a good cook; so good at everything. She came to the door wiping her hands on a towel.
"Sess! You're early! I didn't expect you for another thirty minutes." letting him in the door with a kiss on the cheek.
"I couldn't wait to see you" bringing the flowers out in front of him "These are for you"
"Oh, they're lovely! You didn't need to do that." She gushed and was clearly flustered with the simple gesture of a bouquet "Let me put them in water" as she inhaled deeply with her nose in the flowers.
Kagome found a vase, and opened the green paper around the bouquet. She was looking over all the different flowers in the when he came up behind her.
"Did you know that the flowers have a language of their own?" he said looking over her shoulder while wrapping his arms around her tiny waist.
"They do?" she asked, looking up at him over her shoulder.
"Of course" he smirked "would you like me to tell you what these mean?"
"Yes, that would be nice" she sorted the flowers out to place them into the vase.
"What do these mean?" holding up a lovely Queen Anne's lace, several blue cornflowers and stocks of purple statice before placing them in the vase.
Reaching around her and touching each flower Sesshoumaru gave their meaning "'Delicate femininity', 'delicacy', and 'lasting beauty'. Which is exactly how I see you." She blushed a bit at that.
"Oh?" she held up a couple of Gerber daisies "what do these mean?" she shyly whispered.
"'Gentleness, innocence and loyal love'" he whispered back, nuzzling her neck in the process.
"Flowers mean all of that?" lolling her head to the side.
He nodded into the side of her neck "And much more." He let go of her waist again and picked up the gladioluses "These mean 'I am really sincere'" putting those in the vase, he next picked up the red carnations "These symbolize that 'my heart aches for you'" his voice was beginning to take on a more husky quality.
"Oh, Sesshoumaru" she sighed, overcome with the warmth of feelings he was invoking.
"There's more; The red roses mean 'passionate love', the white roses are 'purity'" She added the roses to the vase as he explained them to her. The bouquet was taking shape now, the flowers were even lovelier displayed in such a manner.
"These last roses are both red and white." Kagome held them up to look closely at the bi-colored roses "What do they mean?" She adds the last two roses, as well as the last two stems of flowers in the wrapping, baby's breath and ivy, to the vase.
"Those roses mean 'unity' and the baby's breath means 'happiness'" he was holding her with both hands again. When Kagome finished tucking the ivy into the vase, he spun her around in his arms and told her the last meaning
"Ivy is for 'wedded love'" he kissed her soft pink lips "which is what I want" looking straight into her eyes " with you."
Kagome's heart began beating a mile a minute "With me?" she whispered back, tears of joy starting to form in her eyes.
"Only you." Sesshoumaru restated "It is you that is pure, delicate, gentle and loyal. It is you that I ache for, that I love with a passion. It is you I want to be with always, in happy unity and wedded love" he kissed her again which she quickly took charge of.
"YES!! Oh Yes Sess! I love you! I would love to marry you!" Kagome excitedly screamed at him between kisses.
Dinner was not all about the food.
A week later, Sesshoumaru returned to the same little flower shop with Kagome in tow.
"Hello, how are you this fine afternoon" the florist greeted. "What can I do for you two today?
"We are fantastic" Kagome gushed. "We would like to talk to you about flowers for our wedding."
"Congratulations!" She looked at Sesshoumaru "I see you got your message across."
"Yes, yes I did. Thank you." Sesshoumaru replied while Kagome looked on amused.
"Well then," the florist said "let's pick out some flower arrangements that really speak to you." as she winked at Sesshoumaru.
