The miko was gone for three days after that Meido sucked her into its vortex. Three agonizing days of waiting for his mate-to-be. He stayed in the same spot as his half-brother's pack without moving once. Staring at where the well once stood.
His beast was pacing and snarling in the back of his mind, howling in rage for for its chosen to reappear. His two wards cried for their new mother on and off as they clung to their alpha. The taija and the houshii both sat side by side with the nekomata curled in the taija's lap, gleaning strength from each other. The old miko came by often with food and water for the ningen and kit, glancing periodically out of the corner of her only eye at the empty spot. InuYasha, the infuriating pup, immediately created a Meido of his own to go after his packmate not long after his mate-to-be disappeared. And Sesshoumaru? Sesshoumaru just stood there, waiting. And praying for her return even if it was only in his mind.
It was only a few hours after sun rise on the fourth day, when the well reappeared with a blue light. Everyone was at attention immediately, even Jaken, as they waited with bated breath for the miko and hanyou to climb out of the well. When, only InuYasha came out after a few minutes, the two packs broke down in heartbreak. Sesshoumaru just stood there in shocked silence, his face blank, as his younger half-brother explained how Kagome was back in her own time after wishing the Shikon no Tama away. How her job in the past was done and the girl was likely not ever coming back...

The daiyoukai came by every three days for three years to see if his koishii ever came back to him before finally letting her go. He never took a mate. He never created an heir for the West. He never truly moved on from her. And everyone knew why.
It was InuYasha who broke him out of his denial. They fought for over three hours before the hanyou was able to send the daiyoukai flying by a punch to the nose. Sesshoumaru just stayed where he landed after righting his broken nose. He knew the half-breed was correct. That his koishii was probably never going to return, but he didn't want to lose hope.
"This ain't good fer ya, Sesshoumaru!" InuYasha cried as he made his way over. "The wench wouldn't wancha ta mope about like this! It ain't healthy!"
"I know," was the monotone reply. The Western Lord was tired. He just wanted his miko back. A miko that, as time progressed, had the probability of never returning to him. At the rate it was going....
No. It was already too long. If she hadn't been here in three years, then she was never coming back to him in this particular time period. Period. It was time.... It was... It...
He mentally shook himself.
It was time to let her go for now...
Even if he didn't want to.
-------------------------------------------Letting Go---------------------------------------------------
He has come across her completely by accident, when she had first started junior high school, on his way to work. It was her reishi that brushed against his youkii that caught his attention first before her scent slammed into him, rendering him immobile as she passed by him with her ningen friends from this time. He couldn't move until she moved out of his youkii's range before flicking out his cell phone and speed dialling a number.
"Yo."
"I have found her. You know where she lives. Tell me when she is dragged down the well. I will make a paid leave from work," he spoke immediately and waited for his otōto's reply.
"I'll do it," InuYasha said after a few minutes of silence before hanging up.
It would take six years before he could officially remeet his miko again, but the wait would be worth it.
For this time....
He didn't have to let her go. She was already here. And she was completely ripe for the pickings to become his mate once more.
